Trip computer/main message centre upgrade on base-model
I understand how retrofitting the base-model steering wheel with the buttons gives cruise-control and radio-controls.
So, does replacing the indicator stork, which doesn't have the "i" button with one that does, activate the trip computer-cum-main message centre?Discovery 3 TDV6 5-Seat

The indicator stalk does have the "i" botton on a base model or at least it does on mine!!. What year & model are we talkin here?.

Reto-fitting the cruise buttons does not give you cruise control.....
thats a CANBUS alteration too.......10FC does these.
The retro-fitted steering wheel radio controls donot give me the i button HSE
settings menu ie. no auto door lock at 5mph etc
I've still got basic SE i button fuctions only.

It did for me, mine is a 2007 GS Auto and the cruise worked from the off once the buttons were fitted, not sure if that was a fluke or not though.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
Wouldnt it cost LR less if they didnt fit the ECU for CC etc, or do the buttons cost a bomb ?Ben

You have to compare the cost of 'overfitting' each vehicle to a standard set of parts and standard work instructions for the staff, against the extra labour costs that would be required to handle build variations earlier upstream.
I think you'll find its at worst cost neutral and more likely cheaper, per vehicle, to manufacture them "all the same" upto a certain point on the line - and thus lower spec vehicles end up with some non-functional parts fittedSteve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

I remember you mentioning this Andy
I think you may have been lucky.
Wish the radio button retrofit gave me settings window

Mine's a 55-reg 5-seat manual with coil-springs. The "i" button works in conjunction with the radio controls but I only have these as a retro-fit, so I take it you can't have "i" without factory-fit radio controls.
I would think that the trip computer function just needs enabling using the CANBUS system. But it would be good to know for sure.Discovery 3 TDV6 5-Seat

Hi Neil,
If I'm not mistaken, the appearance of the settings menu is not related to fitting the cruise/radio buttons.
You're right that you do need the radio buttons fitted to be able to navigate through the settings menu, but from what I remember the bit you actually need to install is the memory module for the seats (I think it goes under the drivers seat). This is where all of the 'settings' are actually stored.
Again, you'd probably need to get it activated too....

Sorry to drag up an old post.
Having fitted the steering wheel radio and CC controls, it would be nice if I can access the Settings Menu of the higher spec models. Is this possible? I've read conflicting information on the subject.

It all comes down to what Ipac you have, eighter Low line (no lcd) or highline (with lcd) to have the I button to work. It is possible to replace a lowline ipac to a highline ipac. It has to be brand spankin new and it needs to be "programed" to the car for it to work.
The cc is controlled via the engine control module to my knowledge. If speed controll is set to fitted in the CCF it should be plug'N'play.

My D3 has TR so has the LCD in the Ipac and the I button on the left hand stalk. I've fitted the CC switchs and radio switchs to the steering wheel. The radio controls work ok for the radio. I can't access the Settings Menu however.
The CC hasn't been activated yet.
I just can't find anything definitive on weather the settings menu can be added?Freelander SE 2005 Auto.
