RamdomKamikaze - D3 TDV6 SE 2006

Just over two week ago I collected what is now my Discovery from stchris from this forum.

After seeing the for sale thread and having a look at the history of the car while in Chris' care (which is well documented thanks to this forum) I went to pick it up.

I've wanted a Disco for years, but finances or work situation have not allowed it until now.

Even prior to ownership, due to spending many many hours on here I had a list of mods that I wanted to do.

Here's my list:

FBH Remote
LR Nudge Bar removed as winch version no longer available
Roof rack
Additional lighting
Light bar
Split Charge
All Terrain Tyres
Winch
Underbody Protection
Sliders
Upgrade to heated steering wheel

The car came with the following:

Upgraded Brakes
EGR's Blanked with plumbing removed
De-tangoed halogen lights
D4 rear led lights
New alternator
Silicon intercooler hose.
New Bosch Silver battery
Laffyette Venus hide-away CB
Sirio antenna
A Black Vue DR500-HD dash camera
A Nanocom Evolution
A C-Tek MSX 3.6
4x4 info enabled

Since getting it, I have replaced the FBH as the controller was faulty so that now works.

As I planned to replace the standard Zero's with All Terrain tyres and I knew that one needed doing, I replaced them with Pirelli Scorpian ATR's on Friday. Turns out the other driver's side needed doing as well.

I've also added the Clock on Dash and flashed the Bluetooth module. I'll add SNOTM soon.

Unfortunately I only have one picture since I brought it:

The ATR's definitely served their purpose when that was taken on yesterday.

There are more available in stchris photobucket account here: http://s1174.photobucket.com/user/stchris3...amp;page=1

I plan to keep this thread updated over time as I add mods and perform maintenance

Thanks for reading

Had an issue where the bonnet catch micro switch wasn't catching and so was getting the Bonnet Open warning on the dash.

Have just moved the catch up a bit and that has solved the issue

To be honest, the heated steering wheel will be something I do in time for next Winter. It's not cheap.

Depending on your Disco, you need the clock spring, new steering wheel either with or without phone controls and a cable from the shop, then you need to fit it. All in its about £550

Can cross another item off the list as of today thanks to discostick

Will be fitting in the next few days

Also been having a go at removing the towbar. What a bloody thing!

Going to get some penetrating oil spray to loosen things up a bit before finding a sledge hammer.

Quite a productive weekend on the Disco front.

Flashed SNOTM, fitted the FBH Remote and gave it a hoover and wipe down inside.

Also got the towbar off so that is now secure in the boot.

Will test the FBH remote later when the temperatures drop a bit.

Next weekend I plan on calibrating the suspension

Been a while since I posted an update here and the mods have not progressed as quickly as I would've liked.

However it's just been serviced and been through it's first MOT (with me). It passed Very Happy after some remedial work highlighted in the service Sad

New rear brake pads, new drive belt tensioner (mine was on the verge of disintegration) and some wiper blades. Now £700 lighter Big Cry

Service and MOT also highlighted additional works needed in the near future

O/S/R upper suspension arm
Play in both front steering tie rods
Free play in steering rack knuckles

I plan on doing these myself as there is plenty of info on here on how to do it, but I do have a quick question, the garage told me that the 'Play in both front steering tie rods' and 'Free play in steering rack knuckles' is the same thing. Is this correct? And if so, I assume I just need to get the replacement items from AF?

Keep the updates coming mate Thumbs Up

It can seem disheartening writing to yourself but people actually do read it!

To answer your question, I have no idea! Maybe they meant the track rod ends and the inner tie rods, but thats my uneducated guess!! I've just ordered a new steering rack for mine to try and sort the sloppy handling out Mad

Iceman08 it's not so bad talking to myself. Haven't had a problem in real life Laughing Seriously though, I was shocked to see 1200 views on a thread I'd not updated in nearly a year. I need to get on it and update regularly like you though.

Oig5485 the FBH controller is configured to use a feed from the headlights to control coming on and off remotely. I have configured the third button on the fob to control the lights. I also don't have the de-tangoed lights any more. I upgraded to Xenons which are still orange. But there are still plenty of photos with different angles in the previous owners photobucket account here: http://s1174.photobucket.com/user/stchris3...amp;page=1

Completed the remedial work over the weekend:

Old arm

New arm in place:

New tie rods:

All completed by a new indy on the Berks/OXON border called Four Counties 4x4. I've done a review of them in the Dealer Feedback section of the forum

For the wheel alignment, I actually went to Kwik Fit who actually did a good job. The drive there was most interesting Laughing
