D3 gearbox fault

Hi all I've got a 07 tdv6 the auto gearbox is giving trouble. The box will select all the gears in both auto and manual as long as you accelerate extremely gently. As soon as you try to accelerate normally, the dash turns into a light show F shows up limited gears available then htc fault, suspension fault limp mode is engaged. In manual first and second gear if you accelerate slowly to just over 3000 rpm, the drive stalls the engine revs drop 300rpm the drive picks up again and will repeat this behaviour. I have done all the usual electrical connection and ecu cleaning, hard reset, gearbox flush and filter replacement. Any help would be appreciated.

First off you need to have your fault codes read to see if there's any deadly codes lurking in there and report back with them Thumbs Up

If you can get to Carlow, I'll put my Nanocom on it for you and read the error codes, the codes should point you in the right direction.

Fill out your profile and we will all know what car you have.

Thanks for the offer " therealboss " but unfortunately she's far to sick to try travel that far. I'm down in the south of Cork.

Hi anglefire is the mechatronic unit the ECU built into the gearbox. Here's hoping that's not it a major pain to replace. If that's not it, its location would help. The woman won't be happy to see me striping a gearbox on the kitchen table.

It sits in the bottom of the gearbox sump.

But don't even think about changing until you know for sure as they are about £900 - You need the codes read and them correctly diagnosed.

Its not a hard job to change if you can get the car in the air to get the crossmember off and drop the sump - replace with a metal one as the OEM are almost impossible to fit with the box in the car.

Thanks anglefire only replaced the sump filter last week with an oem one. Can be fitted without removing the cross member you have to open the right engine mount and jack up for clearance. I do all my jobs old style a pair of axle stands, a couple of jacks and a large use of four lettered quality English. Will report back once I get the results of the reader.

Thanks cornishboy take it you mean traction control and gearbox solenoids

Follow up on my gearbox fault

ok got myself a scan tool plunged it in showed no underlying gearbox faults. But showed up 40 Com's faults being fault codes starting with U and 5 fault codes of interest that would reappear c1a13, p2290, p117d, p0087, u0417. After some major ohm testing of wiring the fault lay in the the wire to pin 4 on the park brake switch. At the rear left side where the loom passes through the body and connects to plug c0390 there is a ring clamp which holds the loom in place this had rubbed through the wiring and had severed the earth wire to the fuel pump and become the earth itself it had bearded the wire to the brake switch the combination of the damage caused the engine and gearbox to go to limp mode. I would like to thank all the contributors to this site for the information and bulletins they have posted without which I would never have solved this fault
