TDV6 2.7l Crank Bearing Early Life Failure

I recently had a total failure of the engine in my '08 Discovery 3 which was found to be caused by a crankshaft bearing disintegrating. I'm currently pursuing compensation both from JLR and the dealer who sold me the vehicle.

It seems there are many examples of similar incidents by the members on here but no admittance by Land Rover of a design flaw in the Ford AJD - V6 / PSA DT17 engine. It appears that the crank shells having no tab and eventually allowing rotation to the point of blocking the oil gallery would be a sound theory.

I do realise there is only a slim chance of getting any compensation but I'm damned if I am letting this go. If anyone would like to share similar experiences with this engine I will collate them and use them as supporting evidence. I'm taking this to the Small Claims Court in Scotland and I will keep you updated.

My hope is that this may pave the way to allow others to claim compensation for what is an extremely costly and painful experience.
