Tow hook height
Have some troubles choosing a trailer. I went looking for an Ifor Williams which should be a good investment. But during a try-out I discovered that the standard tow hook for a D3 is only 40 cm (15.75 inches) from the ground. All trailers have connection point at 48 cm (18.9 inches). With my D1 I had no troubles at all towing an Ifor. It works super. But the same trailer behind the D3 doesn't work. The car is strugling all the time also unloaded.
Both are English and fine but has anybody a solution for it?
Are there more D3's towing an Ifor Williams and how did they solve it?
Thx.My Kyoto is fantastic

I've towed a long Ifor Williams twin axle rated at 2.6T, but it wasn't heavily loaded at the time.
Seemed to tow and reverse fine with the removable TB.
Perhaps someone who tows more regularly with one. AndrewS perhaps (if he's finished looking at the X5...... )Bodsys Brake Bible

Hi,
I tow the Ifor Williams 1.5t twin axle trailer regulary with the removable hitch. It sits level and I have had no problems.
The removable hitch does seem to be generally low though, a boat trailer I tow is very nose down and I am looking at getting the fixed adjustable towbar which would solve that problem.

I tow a 3.5 tonne Ifor Williams 12' x 6' Tipper with mine and on the dealers advice went for the permanent option. He had a farmer with a removeable one and just couldnt get on with it, reckoned it was all over the place empty or full.
Hope this helpsD4 HSE Luxury SDV6,

I have a Challenger twin axle trailer, which I could always tow level with my D1 & D2, but when it came to my D3, I found the trailer to be very nose down when using the removable TB. So much so, that the rear set of wheels on the trailer were nearly off the ground.
So I got the adjustable height tow bar & set the height of the ball to suit the trailer & all was fine from there on

I wonder if there is a fit on adapter to raise the removable TB height by the 40mm or so it needs? would it impact the towing capacity?Bodsys Brake Bible

I presume you mean the Mark2, they were both made by Ray to fit the standard LR receiver. Ray can do wonderful things with metal The End

So custom made.
I am thinking of getting one made in oz. Ray, how was the connection made to the towing eye? Does it take any load?“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

RLD - quick question, although the engineering looks sound to me, given this age of litigation, I guess your custom one inst type approved. You may have problems if there was an insurance claim/damages to settle as a result of a towing accident.
