Finally got around to "blacking" out my Galway Green D4 XS and getting it ready for some proper adventures. First on the list is the NC500 at the end of the month.
Started by plasti-dipping all the silver bits (lettering, grille, handles and vents) black. Was surprised at how easy it was to apply and the results are amazing for the price!
Also added a Prospeed roof rack and ladder as well as some 18" Compo's with 265/65 Discoverer AT3 Sport 2's. I know a lot of people on here aren't a fan of white lettering but I think they look great!
Roof tent will be going on ahead of the NC500 trip and the final piece to the puzzle is getting the Prospeed tree sliders put on. Still waiting on them to be delivered after 5 months on order...
Hi
Really like that , particularly the door handles
One day would really like to do all my wheel arches , door rubbing trims etc

Decided I wanted a tuff rok power panel on the dash but looks like they’ve stopped doing them recently so went ahead and built my own today. Consisted of a 12v socket and twin usb (left) running off the main starter battery, and a 12v socket and twin usb (right) running off my aux battery with battery monitor showing the voltage of both in the middle. Means I can now leave my phone charging and cb on with ignition off and no worries about flattening the battery total cost came out at around £20 so a third of the cost too bought a single sheet of aluminium and got the supplier to pre cut to the correct size, got the sockets from eBay as usual. Took a bit of fettling with a dremmel to make space in the original ashtray fitting to get the extra sockets to fit but does the job and looks good

Today has been a sad day, as I sold my D4. I’m certainly going to miss it, as it’s been the best car I have ever owned and probably the best car I’m ever likely to own.
Of course there has been the Discovery “issues” over the almost 8 years I’ve owned it, but even so, I loved it!
But, there comes a time when the costs mount up, the road tax has always been an annoyance for me and the nagging doubt that one day something might go wrong in a big way.Andy

understand that completely Fitzy.... im sure its something we all live with.... till we can't!
What you changing to out of interest?
It will have a lot to live up to for sure.
edit add on....
im always interested to see where you can go after one of these.... they are so good in so many departments.
I have owned many different cars and our other car at the mo is a Jaguar Ipace...it has been SRT8 Jeep, X5 50d .... Even now I prefer the D4 to all in most ways.
So what you going on to? A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

Still very sad it’s gone and the replacement is never going to be as good!
I now have a Volvo XC70, I’d decided it was one of these or nothing as my D4 replacement. So far I’m very pleased and I can’t believe I haven’t really noticed the drop in seat height, which I thought would be something I’d instantly miss.
I do miss the sound of the V6 though, and whilst a lot of people seem to like the 5 cylinder sound of the Volvo D5, I’m not convinced at the moment.
Technology in the Volvo is on another level compared to my 2010 D4, but then your iPace must be on another level again. How do you find the iPace? I have always thought they look great and would love one, but not in a position to do so, we do have an i3 which we enjoy.Andy

Xc70!
Excellent…..
I love all things Volvo hence my tag name….. that was a very lovely car and quite rare. Yes the 5 pot does sound a bit odd but they are truly great cars and beautifully designed and built.
Loving the ipace but it’s ruined cars really…. The electric torque makes everything else seem a bit pointless… even a 6.1 litre Hemi.
Health to enjoy your Volvo….. definitely more peace of mind with any Volvo over JLR….. so reliable….. still love the Disco though but only with full approved warranty and assistance! Lol.
(Thankfully not used….. yet )A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.
