EGRs blanked PROPERLY today
After Geoff's visit yesterday, and his encouraging explanation of the easy way to blank EGRs, I got up to a nice sunny morning at 6.30am today and decided to give it a go.
Took the first EGR pipe off at the valve and and was very surprised to find this:-

The previous owner had obviously done the old penny in the port blanking.

I replaced these with a pair of Geoff's nice shiny stainless steel blanking plates.
Continuing on, I also found this:-

No wonder I had so much throttle lag! They had blanked the pipes, but hadn't removed the butterfly valve!
Geoff, thanks for the encouragement, and it took me about an hour in total - not bad for a first attempt. There are two rules for success,

The shim is fine, but to complete it the butterfly ought really to be removed, the pipework is fine to remain in place and disguise the fact they're blanked

Then follow up with a BAS remap
I never thought I would want a remap, but it is niggling away now in my mind.

Is this only on the TD's?
What does blanking it do?
Thanks,
Dave
It stops the hot exhaust gasses being forced back into the cold air induction side of the engine.
Think of it this way, you have a Turbo compressing air to add more air charge into the cylinders with more fuel and resulting in more bang,, the intercooler is there to cool down this air, increasing its mass and therefore increasing the amount of air / fuel going into the cylinders, so why do you want to add hot exhaust gasses that are already combusted into this nice cool air charge??
Well it reduces emissions by recycling the exhaust gas, but the down side is it also reduces the volume of nice clean combustible oxygen in that charge, a definable no no for performance Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Certainly does. Just need to work out how to syphon the funds out of the bank account to hide the cost of the remap.
