The FF was detuned so it wasn't as quick as the X5, as well as a little more low end torque Thumbs Up

But yes, it was a poor choice of engine for the FF

United Kingdom 2011 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 XS Auto Zermatt SilverDiscovery 4

Taken from Autoguide.com (http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2015/10/jaguar-readying-inline-six-engine-electric-f-pace-crossover.html)

But before the E-Pace heads to production, Jaguar and Land Rover plans on updating its engine lineup by replacing the outdated V6 mills with inline-six engines derived from the new Ingenium engine family. Due to arrive in late 2017, the new six-cylinder engine will come in the form of a 3.0-liter turbocharged unit with horsepower ranging from 300 to 500 for standard gasoline versions while the diesel versions will have 275, 335 and 400 hp.

So D5 is later than we expected or will they try and sell it solely with an SD4 engine initially?

If the 2l Ingenium engine isn't delivering the results expected for the DS, surely they wouldn't put it in a D5....would they????

What are the problems with the 2l Ingenium in the DS?

Well as the only confirmed engine / D5 combination seen on UK roads so far was a 3.0L petrol suggests rather strongly that at lease some markets will get a reasonable engine.

A straight six does offer some advantages in the placement of ancillaries on a 4x4. For example, the current location of the alternator is sub-optimal due to the bank of the V taking up space higher up.

Had heard rumours of rough, vibrating engines and, like every other manufacturer's figures I guess, just not delivering the quoted real-world figures.

Thanks alfamale. Thumbs Up

I had heard of some problems but didn't know what they were linked to.

The Ingenium engine was over hyped, the promise of a silky smooth sound and 50mpg and daisies coming from the exhausts and we'll all breath fresh air was always going to be hard to deliver. It's no better than any engine that's went before it. It's a bit cleaner than the old PSA engine and that's about it.

Autocar are suggesting the use of the 2ltr hybrid.

Agree - I've the 3 litre 4 cylinder engine in the Shogun - it sounds like a tractor, but does the job. Not a patch on the V6 though. Don't know if I'd be keen getting a new (limited testing) engine in a new D5 - LR have a habit of testing these on the production models. Might be better waiting a few years before a D5 then, or get and early one and get out before the warranty goes?
