I didnt have one of those bulbs spare so i converted it to LED by dissecting an old led interior light i had.
Looks quite good now.

Not really a "how to", but i had several of these 501 LED bulbs knocking about. They came from ebay about £5 for 10 i think.

I un-soldered the end LED then un-soldered one of the four side LED's.

Using the existing 130ohm current limiting resister inside the LED i attached this to one of the LED's using some small gauge wire.
I removed the old bulb, the cut the wires on the back to remove the bulb housing.
I fitted my LED using Araldite glue, with the wires passing up the hole where the bulb housing used to be, then soldered these to the correct pins in the back of the socket.
LED's are polarity sensitive. The positive pin is the end pin of the two for the bulb.

Unsoldering the end LED is a bit tricky. Your need a fine tipped iron and a solder sucker pump.
Make sure you re-use the resistor in the 501 LED otherwise it will flash in a puff of smoke when you put 12v on it.

See earlier post by cornishpirate.
The bulb is push fit but very tight.
You can actually buy an LED version of the T5 286 bulb. I only did this mod as I was too lazy to put it all back together while waiting for some bulbs to arrive and was board on a rainy Sunday!

I used some forceps, the bulbs have a green rubber cover on that can be removed and reused but if you get a green led or you don't mind a white light Metal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)
LR door puddle projectors (10 mins)
Tinted Bonnet wind deflector (10 mins)
All Intercooler pipes and Tbolts (2hrs)
3 injectors replaced so far (30mins)
Sunroof drain pipes both sides 2.5 hrs)
Rear discs, shoes, pads, callipers, flexi hoses, rigid brake line, n/s upper hub carrier bush and rear n/s upper arm (13hrs over 2 days)
