Refreshing Bonnet Lettering
I have a 2006 MY Discovery 3 on which I want to freshen up the bonnet lettering.
However, I want to stick to the original text and colour i.e Land Rover in brunel.
Are there any bonnet letters available other than the expensive original Land Rover ones that are worth buying and fitting, if so which ones?
There was also someone on this forum who said they just painted their existing lettering (I assume they took them off to do this, but they might just have masked around them) does anyone have experience of this approach and how successful was it?
You could rub the existing letters down using very fine wet and dry, then paint them using a good small brush. Its a bit fiddly but will save removing the letters. with the help of masking tape. Mite take a few hours . Good luck whichever way you go. If you made a good job with the masking, spray paint.

PowerfulUK offer a couple of lettering kits...I cant attest to the quality, but for the price they seem a bargain..

I bought the black from them and they do me fine, can't compare quality against genuine, but there plastic lettering does it really matter.

I used Powerful for the front lettering - no probs at all.
For the rear lettering, I couldn't get them all in black so I lightly sanded down the existing letters and sprayed them black in situ. Very careful masking is required. It'd be good to be skilful with a fine craft knife/scalpel. Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

I took all the back lettering off, even before owning a D3 I always thought there was a bit to much across the back.

If you want to try something easy and reversible you can use Plastidip. I'm not positive on it being available everywhere, but here in the US it is a very popular option to liven things up a bit without causing any damage. People use it on emblems, wheels, and even whole vehicles for a fresh color that can be removed without any real damage. I used it on my Redbourne wheels that I picked up secondhand. I hate chrome, but the matte black looks much better. Eventually I'll get the wheels refinished via powder coating, but for $35 USD the wheels look great.
There are a lot of basic and custom color options, but I used the black to freshen up my lettering on my 06 LR3. Very easy to do and it holds up exceptionally well. The best part of this is you don't have to worry about messing up the letter positioning and you literally can spray it on without any crazy masking job and peel off the excess.
There are tons of youtube and other resources online (www.dipyourcar.com is an excellent source of information). Hope this helps.
