car won't start.

Hallo,

Was driving. Then hazard came on. Outside they are flashing but not showing on dash board.
Turned and went back home. Switched off car.
Now it won't start. Trying to start results in hazard flashing but car doesn't start.
Its a V8 HSE 4.4L petrol. What may be the possible causes? And solutions?

Thank you.

You have a CANBUS problem.

Either a physical problem with the CANBUS wires (eg damaged in front wheel arches) or a problem with an individual ECU on the CANBUS.

Good luck.

Hi, had typed out a message but don't know where it has gone.

First time this happened mechanic came fiddled with fuses behind the glove box. Car started and he charged 40 us dollars.

Second time it happened a different mechanic came, fiddled with the same fuses, nothing happened. He gave up and left. I paid him 12 Us dollars

This time round, I bought a nose pliers, tester and some fuses. I have checked and the fuses are okay. Meanwhile

1. I noted there was water under the passenger side foot well. I dried it. Though a little dump for now. (And repaired sun roof drain pipes.)

2. The battery I am using is not a DIN series. It is the one with terminals above battery (not sunken as is case with DIN series) it is an N70

Could the above be cause of failing CAN bus? Flashing hazzards / will not start problem?

Sorry for lengthy text. Here we have few qualified mechanics. Many learn by try and error and practice on cars...

I am open to more advice.

Thank you.
Antony

Water in the passenger footwell could be significant as the CJB (interior fuse box) is a major module on the CANBUS. When it gets wet it causes the symptoms you describe.

Thank you for advice. I have read through the provided links...a little complicated for a first time read, by someone without mechanic experience...but very insightful into working of a car..

Got home yesterday and took off the plastic cover, passenger side, where the lever to open bonet is. Inside i found three sockets? One dark grey, another light grey and the last one is green.

Switched on the car, hazards came on but would not start. Went to the wires pulled and tagged. Grey sockets no effect. But green socket car makes click sounds like doors unlocking and radio sounds like when disc is inserted.

Then the hazards go off, turn key and car starts...pull and tag again gren sockets...car goes on running but with hazards. Switch off and won't restart... Tag and pull again and car starts...

Now car is fine.

Thx.

I am sure the above commentators would now say pull the plug apart dry it out and check for corrosion so that there is less risk of your problem reoccurring and if the green one was wet I expect the others may well be so dry them out as well. Thumbs Up
