Restricted Performance

For a couple of days, I have randomly had the car decide that it's a good idea that we have "restricted performance".
The red triangle warning light is displayed.

It has done this whilst:
1. Accelerating gently.
2. Accelerating hard.
3. Cruising at a constant speed with the cruise control on.

The only fault code found in engine and body control is P3201.
The car resets whilst parked. It then drives normally again with the triangle extinguished.
There are no unusual noises, smells, vibrations or leaks from the engine.

Although the car has full main dealer servicing, last weekend I noticed that the air filter was really bad.
I replaced the air filter yesterday.

Tonight there has been a worrying development. Thud
The engine symbol has also been displayed.

There are no other fault codes stored.
I have just been back out to the car & the warning lights are no longer illuminated.

Before I head off to the dealer, are there any tips or advice, i.e. should I stop driving it immediately.
Has anyone else experience similar symptoms?

Regards

Mr. P

Maybe have a look here:

Crews had a similar fault which was traced to the inlet manifolds being cracked. Thumbs Up

Good luck.

+1 for the inlet manifolds. I too had the same problem.

Thanks for the info.

The car drove ok today with no warnings.
I decided to start with the easy bits, so cleaned the MAP sensor tonight.
I turned this:

Into this:

Using only this:

I seem to remember that this little fella gave me trouble with the D3 too.
If the trouble persists, I'll look at the MAF sensors next.

Using a different diagnostic tool, I got fault code P006A today.
I guess a closer look at the inlet manifolds & turbo actuator would be a good move.

I have been trying to get at the turbo linkage.
I can see the bottom end.

But I can't see it at the top.

Going to try & get at it with this on the weekend.

Got a large tin of GT85 and a tiny camera to shove up behind the turbo.

Gave the linkage a really good soaking with GT85.
After some jiggling about with my length of wire tool thingy it is now moving freely. Razz

I could only see the top of the linkage with a mirror so this is the bottom view.
(As ignition is turned on) This didn't happen before. Must have been seized solid.

I'll take the car for a run later to see if the fault appears or not.......

Restricted performance still happening occasionally. Big Cry
Had fault code P1247 (Turbocharger boost pressure low) twice now.
P3201 & P006A seem to happen mostly whilst accelerating very gently.

Ordered a replacement Turbo Boost Solenoid Valve LR043939.

Had a good look over the car today.
The drivers side inlet manifold is cracked. Big Cry
I'll try & post pics later.

Well I'm not going to attempt to replace it.
It will be off to the stealer for replacement.
Who will pay? Lets see if my warranty does. Thumbs Up

The cause of "restricted performance" was the drivers side plastic inlet manifold cracked.

3.0L TDV6 Valve Cover Split And/Or Cracked
This affects 3.0 TDV6 (2010-2015) vehicles in vin range 508020-765561
TSB LTB00768v2

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation: A customer may report a concern that the vehicle has restricted performance.
Cause: Material thickness and fillet radius of the valve cover not to specification. Suggested Customer concern code MX2.
Action: Should a customer express concern, follow the Service Instruction outlined below.

PARTS:
LR073585 Left valve cover
LR074623 Right valve cover

Discovery 4/LR4 (LA) - Right 7.7 hours labour
Discovery 4/LR4 (LA) - Left 8.2 hours labour
Discovery 4/LR4 (LA) - Full Set 13.0 hours labour

After giving the dealer a full copy of LTB00768v2 I took my car away without paying.
They insisted on trying to get payment from the extended warranty company even though I assured the dealer that they would refuse to pay for an inherent manufacturing defect.

Looking at the hours allowed this looks like a body off job. With an impending belt replacement Is it worth considering getting these changed as a precaution? Does anyone have an idea of the cost of the parts?

Between £175.00 to £200.00 each for the following.

LR073585 Left valve cover
LR074623 Right valve cover

No need to take the body off to replace but would certainly be easier to replace these if you already have the body off.

Does anyone one know where I can get a copy of the TSB? I think mines just suffered the same problem, I'm gonna ATTEPMT to get Land Rover to at least contribute towards the cost. I've only owned the car 2 months and although I got a warranty from the second hand dealer it only covers Upto £500, which from what I've read won't even touch the labour Big Cry
