Fuel tank

I fitted some side steps to the Disco over the weekend. Whilst under the car I noticed that the chassis etc. was pretty clean and rust free. However the fuel tank has a lot of surface rust. Does anyone know of any issues relating to fuel tank corrosion on these cars ? Is it worth just cleaning it off with a wire brush and painting it with stone chip or similar?

I suspect it's the cover plate to the tank, not the actual tank that you've seen the surface rust on Thumbs Up
