Replace Intercooler hose
Guys
About 10 months ago I had a tear in the Intercooler house on me Disco 3 V6. I patched it up with insulation tape which seemed to do the job however lately I'm hearing a whistling noise so upon further inspection I see its erupted the tape and back to square 1 again. There is a small amount of oil spitting out from inside the pipe. I've ordered a new pipe and should be hear beginning part of this week.
Question: I'm a novice and not to clever on DIY especially car maintenance. Is this a job I could so myself and any step by step guide on how to do it. How long would it take. I have tools available and can undo the top part of the pipe easy as its on top of the engine but I don't know where the bottom of the pipe fits into - I'm guess if have to access it from underneath the car as its jacked up at the front ?? Is that right ? Any help so much appreciated. AJ
At the bottom of the wheel arch you'll find a panel held in with 4 plastic rivets; remove that and you have access to the lower jubilee clip. The rivets can break quite easily - you have to put the centre part outwards first.

That split in your intercooler hose looks EXACTLY like the split I had in my intercooler hose.
You even managed to get the camera angle in exactly the same position.
Drivers side. The passenger one gives access to the hose on the other side. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

Thanks buddy, really appreciate the heads up. Any special tools required. I'm assuming a flat head screwdriver to get the Pivet screw on the wheel arch cover off and also flat head to get jubilee clip off the bottom of hose - does that sound about right ?

I'd use a hex socket on the jubilee clips, after spraying some penetrating oil / WD40 on the clip mechanism.
Screwdrivers can easily chew up jubilee clip heads.Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

So when I remove the Pivet screws does the when clover come off or just kind of bend down to allow me access to bottom of hose ?

Don't remove the wheel arch.
Turn the steering wheel to full lock so you can get access to the black plastic splash guard that is located at the front of the driver's wheel arch. It's held on with 4 trim clips and as already said, the middle bit pulls out, and the rest follows. A trim removal tool is useful for this if you have one. If not, a combination of screwdrivers and pliers will work.
These clips will probably break so you will need some new ones. Land Rover Part Number ANR2224.
There will be some black engine oil accumulated at the bottom of the intercooler hose. This is nothing to worry about and is quite normal. Just make sure you put some cardboard or something underneath it to catch any drips before you pull it off the intercooler outlet.
Once both jubilee clips have been loosened, both ends of the hose should just pop off and the old hose should pull out from the top of the engine bay.
Replacement is same as removal but in reverse.

Engine error code P023D due to a split turbo hose
Hi All!
I had been struggeling for some days with the Engine Fault Code P023D (Manifold Absolute Pressure Correlation"A", or something like that). Which, as far as I understand, means "boost pressure coming from the turbo charger and being measured by the MAP sensor which is sitting in thy Y-shaped manifold, is to low".
That caused my Discovery 3 TDV6 MY 2009, 135tkm, to go to the limp home mode for several times. I did some research in this very helpfull board (many thanks to all of you and to Kristian!) and first got the idea that the "famous" MAP sensor could be the reason. So I cleaned and then, since that didn't make any difference, replaced that - but still with no effect.
Then I took a closer look to the turbo charger hose where I found a large spilt in the upper part of it (similar to that one you can see in the photos above). That split was a little bit hidden (since I was not aware of that possible fault reason), so it could only be detected by looking from behind to the front of the car. Using a duct tape I did a "beautyfull" bush repair. The engine is now happy and powerfull again, like a young god (so we use to say here ).
So be aware of that when you get an Engine Fault Code P023D and the Limp Home Mode. Just put some duct type on it ... and continue you journey .
For reading the fault codes I'm using an OBDII interface (got it for about 25€) with BT and an android app. So I'm able to monitor the engine data (i.e. the boost pressure, power, torque...) and read and delete the engine fault codes.
Hope that helps!
... now I'm going to replace the turbo hose by a new one. Would you recommend to take the original one from Land Rover or a silicone-type hose (typically in blue)?
Best Regards from Germany - XOR
