My car makes a strange flutey whistle-type noise as soon as it goes
above approximately 10MPH. It doesn't make this noise while idling or below 10MPH.
The pitch doesn't change at all if the car goes faster.
It also doesn't seem to come from any particular location.
My local dealer has been unable to determine what's causing the noise.
It can be quite irritating at times (particularly at around 30MPH) and I'm concerned it may be a major part failing
e.g. gearbox (auto), turbo, etc.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
The noise is quite difficult to describe exactly - bit like blowing slowly over the top
of milk bottle. The strange thing is it doesn't change in volume, pitch, or tone however
the car is being driven.
Thanks in advance.

Can you feel any rhythmic vibration through the brake pedal when you use it?
I'm wondering if your ABS pump is running full time - happened on my last Volvo when one of the switches on the brake pedal had jammed. The other side effect was that the brakes were very very sensitive.
Edit: Just noticed; Welcome to the site! Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Transgenic tomato anyone?

No vibration through braking. Braking seems fine.
I'll mention it to the garage though.
Thanks for the suggestion - and the welcome.

I can here what I assume is the turbo when the engine's under load - a kind of whine which doesn't last long.
The other noise I can hear _all_ the time and doesn't change pitch.
Could a normally functioning turbo cause this?

I'd say it's defo not from the cabin. So I can't blame it on the wife

That's interesting. Might it be a hole in the manifold?
