About to buy a Disco3 but... which one?
After struggling with an X-Trial (yes - I know..) for far too long, I'm about to buy a second-hand Disco3 to cart me and the boy around to rugby, mountains, fishing etc.
I've around 30k to spend and the problem is....
... which is the better bet - an 05 plate HSE or an 06 plate SE?
I really want automatic and leather (it's an age thing) but am not really sure what any other major differences are or make to the experience. I intend to keep it until hell freezes over or the Greens finally get their heads out their so want to make the right choice once.
Over to you................!

Why not an 06 plate HSE for less than your max budget?
Several 06 plate HSE's on the landrover used car search for just shy of £30k.
All have leather and auto boxes.
Welcome to the site BTW

When I initially chose my model, it was between the Base 7 seater or the SE.
Now all this is in my honest opinion [ok guys!]
Didn't think the S gave me that much more for the price of the 7 seater.
The SE offered me everything I wanted without going to HSE spec [for those little added extras].
I still got, Leather, Sat Nav, front fogs, Karmon Hardon etc
I did specify an Auto box as an extra though.
Overall, I still reckon I made the right decision [for me - ok guys!]
Whatever, the key fact is that you buy a D3 [any type] and leave those X Trail days behind.

I found that once Id optioned in what I wanted on a SE , I could get the HSE for less money so its been 2 HSE's in a row. Whichever you want you will be happy with but shop around you will be surprised what you can get. There is always a dealer out there that needs to move some stock be it second hand or pre-req and a bargain to be had.

I specced up a new SE to HSE standard and saved about £4000! BUT it wasn't quite HSE. The one major bug bear is that the SE leather seats dont have electric motors on an SE. At least not here in Switzerland. Great car though. Even wifey says so and she hates cars. There's one wheel on my wagon, but i'm still rollin' along, it's the cherokee, they're after me, but I'm singing a happy song

a search on http://www.usedvehicles.landrover.co.uk/ for a D3 diesel HSE spec up to 2 yr old between £25k & £30k resulted in 11 vehicles for sale from 05 plate thro to 06 take a look there - all LR dealers and they can be shifted some on the price (or extras gained)

I picked an SE over and HSE and it wasn't simply on the grounds of cost
The SE gave me everything I wanted in terms of spec. The HSE had items I specifically didn't want (Leaky Alpine Roof) so that was the deciding factor. However, the difference between an S and an SE was blinding at that time, so it was a no brainer. Don't know if the specs have change in 18 months though

Just to throw another spanner in the works....
Worth looking to see when the car was first registered. If registered after 23/3/06 you pay considerably more road tax - And it set to increase

Main reason for me buying an HSE was the extra range of seat adjustment on the HSE. Couldn't get comfy in an SE or S.
The other HSE "gadget" I find extremely useful is the powerfold mirrors. Not sure if the SE has those or not.
