| Side step renewal - plastic trim screws stuck |

Hello all,
New member here so please be gentle. I own an '06 Disco 3. After ten years and reading about rusty side sills, I thought I'd look under them and observed the horror that was complete and utter tin worm infestation. So I got some new sills from the LR centre and after some prep with zinc primer and stone chip paint I thought I'd have a go at removing the old steps and fit the new ones.
So after 2.5 hours battling with 2 bolts which sheared, I have a few questions from the expert gurus of the forum. I humbly need to know:
1. Should I get some screw extractors now as the plastic trim screws aren't budging and I think the head will get rounded off?
2. Bearing in mind the bolts holding the brackets on haven't been touched for 10 years, how easy is it to remove a rusty bolt should it shear? What is the simplest way to remove the rest of the broken bolt?
3. Is there any fellow member in the north west who could give me a hand or some tips on how best to tackle this?
Apologies for the questions. Help much appreciated.

If mine were anything to go by the brackets were fine, just the stem tread plate that had dissolved. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. I've had a look at mine and they're all crusty with large bits flaking off. I don't want them to be the weakest link with shiny new side steps if poss. New to modding my disco 3

So were mine - but I could jump up and down on the bracket and it didnt move, so I just left them there, reinforced with some Hammerite. So advice would be just fit the sills to the old brackets after painting them with some hammerite? New to modding my disco 3

Yes. Nothing to loose doing that first. If a bracket does fail in the coming years you only have six bolts to undo to be back where you are now. I'd suggest you use stainless bolts, or at least lots of copperslip.
I bashed the steps on my D3 a lot when off-road - sometims so much the door would not open and I had to get three or four hefty chaps to jump on the step to bring it down again. Original brackets still on it when I traded it in, but steps replaced a few times. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. I've just done mine

The bolts on my 58 plate came out no problem. The screws that hold the sill cover to the inner wheel arch were the only things that dissolved and needed replacing. I swapped the brackets, because when I took the old ones off, the bodyshell behind was well rusted by the muck held there.

What did you do about the rust on the bodyshell? Did you remove the rear wheels to tackle the screws holding the plastic trim in place? New to modding my disco 3

I took the plastic trim off the sill - cross-head bit in a small socket, so I didn't have to take the wheels off.
There are a few plastic clips that you pull out the centre circular section to release. There are also three of the bolts that hold the metal step brackets in place that go through the sill. The others are fitted before the plastic sill goes on i.e under it.
I put a couple of coats of zinc primer on the bare metal, then sprayed the lot in waxoyl -before putting brackets on and then the plastic sill back on.
