Off Topic

The DS/Evoque will be getting a 3 cylinder diesel with mild hybrid technology in 2018, LR claim the biggest problem is the refinement of the 3 pot.

I do like the D5 but as my D4 is only a year old, with only 5,300mls on the clock and clean bill of health at its 1st service, it's looking like I will keep that one for a bit longer. I've looked at FFRRs in past but that's going back to a 3 year old car, MOTs etc.

There is still the option of the odd Landmark hanging around, my dealer has one on the demo fleet, I jokingly asked them to keep it in storage until March Laughing

I assume the D5 will eventually get the same system as the Range Rover with a 20-30 mile electric only range.

From brochure (page 24):
Pioneered by Land Rover, All-New Discovery features a powered inner tailgate, which when deployed can provide a platform for use at social and sporting events coupled with greater protection from the elements. This platform also allows for easier loading and acts as a retainer when the loadspace area is filled.

I checked this morning. My D4 still has a split tailgate so I'm going to be ok for a few years.

Cool. Another motor that can fail. Wink

But essential though!

Could you imagine having to fold down something 1/3rd the depth and a 1/4 of the thickness of the bottom half of the D4 tailgate and having to do it all manually?! Shocked I break out into a sweat just thinking of the sheer physical exertion involved Rolling Eyes

And then, just imagine, the sheer inconvenience of it being fully "deployed" in less then a second, when we could stand and wait 5 seconds for an electric motor to do the job?

I think a little light pi*5 taking might be involved when someone stands there and operates "The Plank" Rolling Eyes

Dogs will need to be trained a new command, the "wait for the inner tailgate to automatically deploy" command before jumping out for walkies. Sure it will work no problem Laughing

If it's a collie, you might be able to train one to operate it Rolling Eyes

Think, buyers are going to to use this thing every time they want to simply slide a box in and out. I can see it being removed straight away and left in the garage, along with the roller blind to cover the boot.

An improvement then, you could not do that with the old lower tailgate Wink

Ive got 3 roller blinds in my garage never used Laughing

Looking at it though it could have scope for modification or even replacement with DIY or aftermarket ones. Wider to stick out more and manual?
