Me neither, I would say it was well laid out, about the right quality for a Discovery and in keeping with JLR's rounded aesthetics. Which is the reason why the Defender isnt being made anymore because they arent sympathetic to pedestrians.
Those awaiting the arrival of the new Defender 
If you are anticipting a vehicle shaped like a garden shed with a CD Factor of a brick that has no elbow room, a bettery housed beneath your Loved ones, water resistance of a wendy house with the build quality of a Lada are going to be sorely disappointed. Only dead fish go with the Flow !

I think as you appear to sit lower in the D5, that's why it appears cramped from my own viewpoint.
I can say with all honesty it's not for me.
Based on looks, price and will be no commercial option.
I have owned many LR, products over the years. I have grown out of the Defender market due to leaks, poor space for user, noise etc.
I pin my only hope on buying another one on either a end of model commercial D4 or if they do a good job with the replacement Defender.
I am not looking for a barn on wheels, perhaps a cross between the DC100 concept and the current or now ended D4?
Just seems very sad that LR only build clones of the same design now. Character and individual design merit seems lacking and hopefully will be addressed on the next model they plan!
Get that right and train the dealers better could be perfect for LR. Discovery commercial tdv6 auto 2013

You're right, LR has diminished the brand. It will only be able to trade on its legacy for a limited period. Look at SAAB and how it tried to use its areospace past to enhance the brand. It lost out because it went mainstream and was just a rebadged Vauxhaul. What made it different had gone. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

I thought I was sitting higher, did you get the Landrover people to set it at Drive height & adjust the seat?
When stopped the normal parked position is auto Access height. Peter

Ride height is a tad higher in normal mode but you sit lower in the cabin, the Command driving position is not quite as pronounced as in the D4, its still there but not as much. We did lots of testing around this at the dealer event in and out to the carpark as they wouldn't let me roll my D4 into the showroom when i asked  MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Perhaps it's the seats being more comfy that gave that impression? 
I "judged" Command position slightly (after raising seat) higher. But for sure there is not a lot in it. Peter

Having looked at the new D5 ....
I am sure everyone* will join me in congratulating JLR for their innovative design and 'urban camouflage' look... I'm sure everyone* in the company* will look forward to a massive sales increase and increased profits in 2017 and beyond..

It is close, one good thing with being lower for me was i could see the top of the dash binnacle MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Chugga90, i have no doubt that the new DEFENDER will be better and more user friendly than the one that has just ceased production. The only problem is Genuine enthusiasts dont want user friendly, comfy, or safe. Most of the people i've spoken to would glady be burried in their DEFENDER than buy what is yet to come.
I've driven every Incarnation of Defender, Lightweight's, 3/4 Tonny's, 1 tonners, 6 wheeled 130's, 90's, 110's and everything in-between, they are a Death trap. i've been in them when things have gone wrong and they are not safe "Thats just mine and a few others opinions" as most people just like to believe that you are their crumple zone. Which is great until you get T boned by a HGV and your Son is in the back.
Any way, this is just a storm in a Tea cup compared to what will be bounded about when the new DEFENDER breaks cover. From what i can see and what i've heard the D5 is aimed at Families as oposed to Overland Expeditions and brewing up on the Tailgate. You would think then that the new DEFENDER will plug that gap, the Commercial gap and Military aspects as well.
