Dealers not making enough from the service plans?
Just attempted to book my car in for it’s first service… (not at the local dealer because they are so bad). Anyway, it’s the first time I’ve had the pleasure of using the Land Rover 5 Year Service Plan, which was included with the purchase of the new car.
Strangely, the dealer is now trying to persuade me to have several additional ‘paid for’ items included in the service, i.e.. a flush of the fuel system to remove all the sludge (£40) and a clean of the heating system to remove all the bugs and dirt (£19.50).
Apparently Land Rover recommend these items are done annually. If that was true… why aren’t they part of the annual service? (to which the dealer had no reply)!!!
What's odd is that in the 10 years disco ownership, it's never been suggested that I get these things done on any other service that I was paying for?
Obviously I’m not having these unnecessary additional items done simply so the dealer can fleece customers for some more money… but the whole attitude leaves a bad taste and only encourages me to leave the brand even quicker than I was previously planning.
P.S. Just remembered from working on a LR film... we're not supposed to call them dealers any more... they are now "Retailers" - seriously !!! 2005 D3 HSE 2011 D4 Landmark 2016 D4 HSE Lux

Same old bolldocks that Ratstones used to try and flog me many years ago, needless to say didn't buy any of it. Strangely enough Guava never did, either coz they are a great dealer and/or they'd seen enough of my car!!

Don't forget to tell them that you won't pay for any chargable items, unless approved by you in advance.
At the first service I was told rear brake pads needed replacing, on questioning they agreed that they might last another 5k miles, but wouldn't last "until the next service - hence the recommendation.
The same story at the next service 12 months & c. 24k miles .. in the end I replaced them a c. 30 k miles, even then they had a few more K miles, but changed them as I was going on a long trip.
I also always refuse to buy their windscreen washer fluid at an excessive price!

There wont be any sludge at all in the fuel system unless you have been filling up from dodgy cans of cheap derv?
I often look in truck diesel tanks that have covered a million kms and guess what? theres no sludge or dirt anywhere (after all thats what the fuel filter is for) maybe the odd water droplet and thats from a set up used by hundreds of people that the vast majority could not give a toss about.
The a/c clean is just an aerosol you can buy from ebay/halfords etc for under a tenner

Think most dealers have been offering/doing flushes and Air con clean for years nowSend a paypal payment direct using this link https://paypal.me/duckworthparts

This type of extra sell is aimed at those that know jack about cars and there are a lot of them out there. My other car a vauxhall went in for its annual inspection for the warranty, my wife took it in I was busy. She comes back, oh my god you need so many things doing to your car. They presented her with a list to the tune of £780.00 I looked at it and laughed out loud.I had already changed water / air con top up / brake fluid / all in the service book which they could not have even looked at. Oh and that was a year ago.It passed it's MOT recently not at the main steerler mind you.Baa

What percentage does the garage lose out under these schemes?
I assume they are compensated by Land Rover but I'm guessing it's not the usual amount they fleece out of 'paying' customers Which is why they try and give it a boost!!Discovery 4 HSE

Hope they find the keys, in there at 8:30am tomorrow to pick up a new key and get the gas struts changed.
Not enough to keep them in the manner they've become accustomed to but with the D4 (with warranty) they're not going to go hungry.
