How do I know if I've bought genuine alternator??
Hiya, I've bought and fitted a new alternator this week. Was advertised as genuine denso landrover but when it arrived there was no badge or label on the alternator other than a code etched into a black part of it. The code wasn't the same as the part number but i thought it must be right and had it fitted. Now it's fitted, the battery lights disappeared but the car sounds different - like a humming noise with the revs. It also feels like the revs are holding for longer when I blip the pedal it continues to rise to 2k then slowly drops again. I'm sure it used to be more responsive with the pedal.
Anyway, my man who fitted it also said that the one that came off had denso and Land Rover markings on it and was surprised that the new one didn't.
You think I've been sent a non genuine as I've heard they can cause niggles??

If it's genuine it will look like this, with a Denso sticker, and would have come in a Denso or Land Rover box.

Well mine definitely didn't have that denso sticker and was in a plain cardboard box. I'm going to have to double check what I ordered. Cheers

What do you all think then? Was I correct to expect a genuine denso?

Not at that price!- but if it was described as genuine I'm afraid you've been dun although it says genuine Landrover it does not say the alternator is genuine, typical Internet deception IMHO, have you checked the charging rate?It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Looks like they use the words Genuine Land Rover on the phone page, but not on the web page!

That price is plus VAT. was £165 with delivery and euro car parts had it at £210 with a 30% weekend code so I realised it was cheaper but not so cheap that I was being blagged. Do that company ever post on here?

Well I've spoke to them and he's adamant that it's a genuine part but he said they don't always put the denso or Land Rover label on. So basically I've to send it back and they will send it off to Land Rover to be tested - and then if it's faulty I can have a refund.
So in the meantime I'm going to have to buy a denso one from elsewhere - anyone know where I should be buying from please?

Ok thanks, I've ordered another so at least I can compare the 2 but I'm not sure wether to believe the one I have is genuine when there's no denso markings anywhere. I also have a feeling that the thread on mine was brass as apposed to the silver threads on the pictures you've all posted of yours.
