that's cheating
thought it better getting these T bolt clamps, seeing there stainless steel , along with the silicone hoses it should fingers crossed be a fit and forget
wasn't there also something to do with the turbo
in changing the studs to bolts
assume ur also be painting the chassis
also passenger side, front of rear wheel there's a wiring loom that is near the compressor pipes, rubs against the chassis and wears the outer sleeving off
""For any possible future turbo removal to be made as easy as possible, remove the turbo, take out the studs and drill the threads out to 8mm. Use 2x M8 flange bolts to refit. This aids turbo removal massively, and is also much quicker. ""

recently bought some cans of dinotrol
hope there will be plenty of pics please
Yes that's one that's already on the list ! I intend to do a full write up on here.
One piece of advice I have heard and tried, spray hairspray on the flange before fitting the hoses. It makes them more secure. Jarrod

Just thought I would bump this. I put on all the silicon hoses with the engine out and didn't fit T-Bolt clamps - I have tried about 8 times to get the small hose right and finally I searched the web for high compression clamps and to my surprise one of the primary uses of T-Bolt clamps is for silicon turbo hoses. I then searched them here and found this... too late for me
DON'T FIT the small hose without these. I think the others are fine as worm style and can be retro fitted if there is an issue. Furthermore I wouldn't fit these to the Inter-cooler in case I over-stressed the thing and cracked it. I'm sure if you fit them they will be fine ... but I have a deep history of f :censored:ing up simple jobs and therefore I look for problems where there aren't any.
As a by-product of the the above I am now and expert at refitting the front inner mud shield. Roughly get the shield around the wheel by coming in diagonally front to back - fit the back first (with the rear flange under the side molding) ... then fit the shield over the front strut.
BTW the fault codes from a leaky small hose are the same as for a split hose. So if you have fitted the (small) silicon hoses without t-clamps don't assume the fault is with the inter-cooler - look at the hose clamps first.

hi, glad the thread was of some use to u ,
great write up you've done
when i bough the silicone hoses and saw it wasn't an easy job i wished to ensure the clamps were also up to the job
extra benefit of the Tbolts with them being stainless steel, so in theory can fit and forget them , also being able to get a socket on them i felt was a lot better than messing around with a screwdriver
still got the pleasure of fitting them , ,
how's things going with urs now

Firstly thanks for all the measurements - not sure I really wanted to pull them off just to size them up. I haven't fitted them yet - they are sitting on the table next to me. The smaller clamps seem to be laughing at me for some reason?

hi brett kaz
ur very welcome , thought that it was the least i could do in putting the sizes of the clamps
seeing i've gained so much help from this forum i wished to at least make a very small contribution
know there not the cheapest thing to buy , but seeing the restrictions of fitting the hoses felt it was the way to go
will be interesting to see as people start replacing there intercooler hoses if some are split or worn out , or possibly resolve any issues ??

Yes I think D3 owners garages around the country have small and medium hoses sitting somewhere in them rather than in the car ... which makes sense the long hose seems to be 99% the cause but as more people start pulling engines out and fitting these then this thread will be more prominent. Everyone says silicon turbo hoses for body off but I think people need to be reminded to fit T-Bolt clamps as 'belt and braces'.
Thanks again
