| Flat battery and Christmas tree dash help! |

Hi all, still new to the forum so apologies if this is the wrong place to post. Our disco 3 decided to cut out earlier with numerous warning a flashing up. HDC fault, traction fault, park brake fault to name but a few. The battery went completely flat, first thoughts were just a knackered battery so put a new fully charged one on. Drove 1 mile home and the replacement battery was drained and wouldn't start again. During the 1mile trip all the warnings were going off. Any thoughts on what the issue could be? Initial thoughts were alternator?

you are probably right!
You nead a dc volt meter to measure the battery voltage. Anything lower than around 12.5v with everything switched offis not good, with the engine running the volts should rise to over 14.5v
If you see no increase with the engine running, then it is not charging -ie. alternator probably fubar.
Easy to change, search on this forum for hints and tips! Not such a Disco Newbie now!

Your alternator has given up and is now dead shorting. This is very common. 
I've lost count of the number of times somebody has fitted a new battery only for it too to suffer a quick and painful death.
Unfortunately, you have also killed your new battery. You must get your car recovered, get the alternator replaced with a Denso alternator ( do not even consider the cheap alternatives and do not accept a cheaper install because your local garage cannot get hold of a Denso unit ) and then fit a new battery.
You might be lucky and the replacement battery has survived but it's highly unlikely.
Get your Denso Alternator from here if you can't source one locally: http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/alternator--fixings-1627-c.asp
Be warned, failure to fit a Denso will open up a whole world of pain and cost you even more in the long run.
You have been warned. 
In the mean time, there is no point messing about with a meter and checking voltages,. You need to disconnect the battery with immediate effect and hopefully, you'll save it. If it survives, get it on a battery charger and see what happens.
