Supplemental Horns for Discovery 4 - Stebel ?

Robbie wrote an excellent guide to fitting a Stebel Nautilus horn to the D3 here:-

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic79229.html

many thanks Robbie.

Having just sold my D3 complete with Stebel Nautilus horn I want to upgrade the rather puny horns on my new Landmark.

The original Stebel horn which I fitted to my D3 seems to be out of production or currently unavailable.

However the good news is that there seems to be a wide range of Stebel horns available here:-

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/stebel-horns-c-376_89_373.html

They offer a Nautilus, but ISTR it's not the original - maybe someone can enlighten me? Is it improved, or modified in some way?

The Tuning range claims to be:-

more water tight than the standard Compact, in order to better resist high water pressure spray washes and inclement weather.

I see that NippyNormans are offering this as a substitute for the Nautilus:-

Has anyone any experience or recommendations please?

I assume fitting to the D4 will be similar, or identical to fitting to the D3, and that Robbie guide will be equally relevant.

The ones on MX5Parts are original, I ordered a Magnum off there recently to go on my motorbike.

If you run 1 magnum you probably don't need a relay and extra wiring, the current supply should be man enough. Almost as loud as the Naughty and a lot simpler to wire up.

i'm looking to fit a Ring compact air-horn - which I've had for weeks but been toooo busy to fit it - but I want to wire it so it also sounds when the alarm sounds.

does anyone know the wiring details for the battery backed sounder ? it has 3 wires - presumably live, ground and trigger (which may be hold-off I suppose ?) but they're all black so couldn't spot which to connect to.

The wires to the battery backed sounder are a databus rather than a simple trigger. They can be used as a trigger for a horn instead, via a suitable CCF modification, as they were built with that option in mind (for other markets).

This is how I have mine configured, so that I have an alarm that can actually be heard, as well as texting me with the alarm event via the fuel burning heater control.
