MPG
Hi All,
I never bought our D3 to compete with a Prius on MPG (maybe thought about using it to run one over ) but typically what do other people get - I'm currently getting 22-23mpg..... is that typical?
Somebody mentioned getting it re-mapped to gain more but saw a recent post suggesting it could cause more problems than good - its only done 46k, so wanted to look after it

Get about 48mpg out of one of our hybrids. And just under 40 from the other hybrid.

What sort of driving to get that? Around town, fast motorway, rural roads? Plus is that real mpg or the trip comp that typically over-reads by 2 - 5mpg?
Expect ~18 - 20mpg around town, 25 - 27mpg on rural A roads, ~27mpg at 70mph on motorway and 30 - 32mpg cruising at 60mph on Mway. Slightly worse in winter. A lot worse with a heavy right foot.

Thanks
Anyone recommend any re-mapping - if so, what could you expect to improve it by?

General consensus is remaps don't do much, if anything, for mpg, just dramatically improve drivability.

Mine is re-mapped. Actual average mpg over last 5 years = 22.654mpg

Mine seems to be similar - showing on the trip comp

Mine too, remapped since 9,000 miles. With the following figs bare in mind most (like 80 - 90%) has been spend long hauling at 60mph on motorways. We ain't exactly going to save the planet.

Sadly she never saw 27.00 mpg.

For MPG, a good 4 wheel alignment is worth more than a remap.
Then make sure tyre pressures are spot on, 1 or 2 psi over wont hurt, but never under inflate, ever.
The only other advice I can give is slow down, driving at 56MPH is OPTIMAL, there are good technical, aerodynamic, reason why the USA chose 55MPH as the speed limit back in the 70's, its the sweet spot for maximum economy.
And on a slightly philosophical note, there is more to a journey than just the destination...you are driving one of the best vehicles ever made, take the time to enjoy it.
My trip computer is currently showing 31.6mpg, so its probably closer to 27.6mpg.

My tyre pressures are always spot on. Using a tpms. And I drive like miss daisy. The biggest factor for me is the frequent short journeys it dies. Usually less than 7 miles and then the engine is switched off ... It barely gets chance to warm up. On a long journey I have had over 30 true mpg.

A good remap from either BAS or Alive will make a decent improvement to the driveability of your car.
It may help mpg on runs, i know of some who got better mpg after a remap by a decent tuner.
Don't fit a tuning box or such, waste of time and an engine is an expensive item to repair or replace for the sake of a few quid.
As has been said, correct pressures, wheel alignment, serviced properly will all help.
As for the mileage, i had mine remapped at 154k with a BAS map. It's now at 163k and running happily.

mines virtually the same readings as you've got
the first winter with it was interesting , as the FBH kicked in , as the temp went up in the cabin to cosy the mpg monitor went down -- to around 12-14 mpg
didn't really notice any difference after i blanked the egr , but tickover was a lot better in traffic
still think that's really good mpg readings considering it's designed like a house brick and weighs half a house,
still brings a smile on my face every time i drive it
