split charge relay
Had my60 D4 for a few weeks now and have just installed a second battery in the aux battery box using a cheaper version VSR that under closer inspection only cuts in at 13.7 volts the branded ones ie Duritc one cut in at 13.3 volts . My battery was new this year and is a genuine Land Rover AMG type fitted by farnells the voltage at rest is 12.65 volts rising to 13.6 volts when the engine is running with lights and heated seats one etc
I'm going to take the relay to work tomorrow and connect it to a stabilised DC supply that I can vary and see what voltage it switches at in the mean time I've ordered a Duritc one that switches at13.3 v
Have been reading about BMS fitted to the D4 and people talking about getting there's reset but not sure that there is anything wrong with my setup but a bit confused as to why it wouldn't charge at over 14 volts with everything switched on
Anybody got any thoughts on this other than the alternator is getting tired

I did think about a VSR for fitting the 2nd batt but seeing how low the alternator volts go I binned that idea and we (MrH with me dropping wrenches) fitted my trusty solenoid instead. Works boooooootifully.
The alternator will only charge as much as the battery needs to maintain about 80% full charge. I've got the Durite one on my D4 and not had any issues with the second battery maintaining charge.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8
