Well, I've just picked up the car from Greenflag. They've sorted it out and not charged me a penny, saying it is all part of my cover. I regret to say, that I didn't ask what they did specifically.
However, in view of the above comments, especially from Disco_Mikey where he says "The WHOLE fuel system needs replacing. Everything..." I'm left wondering what they did specifically, and what long term effects I might yet encounter.
I have driven it home, 8 miles, that's all.
Disco_Mikey what would you do now please?2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather, towing a Coachman VIP 575

Heck, that sounds like one hell of an expensive lapse of concentration. Why all the damage, why doesn't the engine just stop?Belts, oil pump casing and water pump by Flack

The engine does just stop but the petrol strips all parts of lubricant that the diesel provides so your fuel pump starts to ingest itself and sends metal fragments into the engine.
Good luck with it, lets hope you're lucky.Mods:

Is there any type of filter that could be placed post-HPFP to stop/check any potential metal fragments getting to the injectors?Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

I would definitely ask what has been done then you know what is going to happen long term. If all parts have not been replaced as Mike says then its not good news for you. I would say this to you, you have made one mistake don't make another ask what has been done Good luck fella.The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;

I suspect that they have simply flushed it through.
I have read somewhere that I could possibly claim on my insurance, as it might amount to accidental damage. I will ring my insurance company first thing Monday to see what the position is.2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather, towing a Coachman VIP 575

Think you'd have to away with it if it hadn't been driven to the point where it refused to go anymore, but as you have .......

Can you do anything such as get the pump checked? Can it be dismantled? Or should I just go ahead and get it replaced now?2008 D3 HSE Stornoway Grey with Ebony Leather, towing a Coachman VIP 575

Have to agree.
Youll never get it back to what it was without throwing money at it. Thing is it could screw up quite suddenly. Better to cut and run IMHO.
