D3 purchase/experience.
Wondering if with experience of running a D3 people would if they recommend purchasing one? Looking to purchase one but appreciate the thoughts and experiences of others. It would only be weekend vehicle and towing caravan so annual mileage approximately 8k.

If you have cash set aside for the things that'll need doing and or enjoy getting your hands dirty plus spending a week reading this forum to find out how to reduce the odds of buying a bad one, then yes I would recommend one!

I don't mind getting my hands dirty SWMBO thinks car get more attention than her been driving any I can even though to expensive or a pile of poo so I have more experience of them so know what a good one drives like. Asking for proof of history not just service book stamps reading lots of post. Also check if any post prior to getting flushed transmission mentioned any problems to see if PPM not trying to fix a problem. There a machine all said and done but been doing my homework and asking lots of questions to those with greater knowledge and experience. Hopefully will progress to a full paid up member of the D3

DO NOT expect the D3 to be a car like X5 or ML.
It is a love hate story. Have done a lot of repair to it which was made possible by this site and its members. Without the help provided I probably would have filed chapter 11 within 6 month from owning the D3.
It is an incredible truck to drive but when faults appear it is driving you bananas First investment is a IID tool!
Even if you are a handy man you should put a few bucks aside. Always expect the unexpected and there are a lot of unexpected things down the road.
Will never reach out for a X5, ML or D5. D3 resp. D4 it will be.Achim
