EGR blanking - clarification please
Got the engine management light come up on my 2006 2.6 Disco 3 (130k miles). Decided to bite the bullet and blank the EGR's as the error code (P045C) I get suggests one of them is at fault.
Thank you everyone who has contributed over this especially those that posted pictures.
Anyway I have a couple of unanswered questions (and apologies if they have already been answered but I can't find them):
(1) Given mine is a 2006 model engine will blanking get rind of the engine management light or will I still need to get it wiped
(2) Googling this some people seem to imply that the butterflys can stay in place, the instructions from the supplier suggests otherwise? Any comments please
Anything else I need to be wary about. I wouldn't class myself as the most confident car mechanic about but happy to have a go at stuff if the instructions are good.
Hi
Had it done on my 08 D3
Butterfly still in place, no problems.
Some say take out some say leave in.
Also remapped the engine and deleted EGR
Also being a 06 it should be ok with no lights coming on.

since yours is an 06 there is no engine remap, just have the fault erased. regarding the butterfly i had it removed, theoretically on idle butterfly is off and air intake comes from the EGR. once those are blocked there is no air intake into the engine. it is very simple to do it.

The fact that you have a light on, would suggest to me a ecu flash costing £2xx is required.
But someone else can advise.
Best to remove butterfly. ppl have reported annoying problems, very difficult to trace, all because the butterfly is left there!
Indeed, the fact you have the EML on the dashboard means you have the EU4 engine and will need the software patch - that should make it an 07MY? Do remove the butterfly. As others have said, sounds like you have a 2007 build registered in 2006. This is not unusual.

DVLA site says Date of first registration: November 2006, Year of manufacture: 2006 so I suppose that supports what has been said on here. Thank you for all your advice.

Does the VIN have 6A or 7A just before the big number at the end? Date of registration doesn't mean much as the car could have sat in a field for a long time. My old D3 was manufactured in August 05 and registered in April 06. And if it is an 07MY (7A in the VIN) does that not also point to the oil pump needing changed asap if not done so already?

Likely to be a 2007 model year. The changeover is usually around August/September of the year previous. VIN will confirm it.
It's like November's magazines which have been in the shops since early October... 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

An update on this. Bodsy kindly gave me a quote for a remap/blanking etc. Decided to wait (wife has booked a rather expensive holiday to Cape Verde on the run up to Christmas grrrrrrrrrrr).
So just decided to blank my EGR's instead and get rid of the EML light (with a view to having the extra work done in the new year). Bottled out of doing it myself, excuse being it's a 2017 engine and will need the update doing to get rid of the EML.
Took it to a local garage with the facilities. Just got a call from them - your EGR's are already blanked but it looks like the remap software doesn't cover all the error codes it should to stop getting the EML light. Oh well it's saved me a few bob on EGR removal work lol
Bad EGR patches achieve the job by deleting a whole bunch of fault codes - doing so is not necessary to tackle the issue and not recommended. If this is what they are expecting to see and using, I suggest you avoid and go with a BAS patch from Bodsy. you must remove the flap. Vehicle goes much better without it. Drove mine around for 9 months with the flap in. removed it 2 days ago. the difference is very noticeable
