I've done quite a bit of searching and not really getting anywhere
i have a 2005, 54 plate TDV6 and my fuel gauge has a mind of its own, i filled it up and when i got back in it was reading 3/4 (the pump tripped out at £80), i drove down the road and it came up to full so not too bad, i then switched it off went into and when i started it up the gauge was at 1/2.
I’ve done over 350 mile in it now and sometimes it seems to show what I’d expect for the fuel level (going off how far it normally gets on a full tank) but more often than not its reading between 1/2 and 3/4.
The range is still showing 250 mile as well, as much as I’d like to think its doing exceptionally good on fuel, i don't think its quite right haha
Does anyone have any suggestions as all the posts I’ve found are with the fuel gauge going to empty?
I’ve removed my LED brake light bulbs and put standard ones back in (someone suggested they could be causing issues) but no change.
Thanks in advance

I’ve just had the OSF arch liner out and disconnected and cleaned the 2 connectors, refitted and still no change.
is there an inspection hatch in the floor to get go the top of the tank? or is it a case of dropping it off the car?

It sounds like a sensor playing up - both are in the tank and can only be got at with dropping the tank. There is also a connector behind the instrument panel that can give weird results along with a low battery.

I had a problem with mine some years ago, I got a second hand tank and just replaced the whole thing, rather than trying to change one or other sensor. Very simple to change, just get it almost empty first. Joined the BMWX5 45e group
