That's a handy tip, a few minutes too late for me this time unfortunately.

Ok so it was -4 this morning when I started the car with the new battery.
It started first sime but with a struggle.
As it started the hdc error message flashed up for a second and then went away.
I noticed that all the way to work the red alarm light was flashing though. Any idea what this suggests?
The fuel is low but still about 1/8th of a tank.

Cheers

if your fuel is that low that would stop the FBH working. You could have issues with the glow plugs so cold starts are a struggle. Glow plugs can be hard to change on these (as they can snap).

You could have a FBH controller fitted (Bodsy is your man here) so you can fire up the FBH from anywhere and start the car 30 mins later and its already warm (so vents blow warm air immediately).

It's not normally anything to worry about. If you have power issues, like low battery, or it has struggled to start, you often get the HDC (Hill Decent Control) message.

Make your car easier to start and it will help.

Might be worth checking the Alternator voltage when running just to make sure that is healthy.

You can see the voltage on the hidden menu on the nav screen

Left the car at the side of the road for 6 hours
And the new battery has drained.
To top it off I'm now squirting oil into the siezed key lock with no success.
Can't pop the bonnet because I can't get in the car.
Looks like I have a battery drain somewhere.... starting to resent my disco all of a sudden

Sounds like classic alternator failure symptoms and it's causing a dead short.
Your new battery will be toast, you need to disconnect it as quickly as possible. Big Cry
