Paul, you too have played your part, so as far as I'm concerned we are all guilty m'laud. Look nobody died ...it's just a metal thing with 4 wheels and some windows that some can see out of Whistle Wink

Anyway, I'm off out for a drive Mr. Green

Can’t say I have, I have said for sometime I don’t like the back end, I like the front very much the rear quarter is strange, but the car isn’t aimed at me. My wife thinks it Censored as do the kids so I won’t be having one. I’ve also said the I’m pleased for those that like their car, my opinion of it matters not one jot. I also think that sales are irrelevant, a mondeo sells more units than Aston Martin but I know which I’d rather have.

I am genuinely interested in what the D5 is like and I read the forum from time to time, I don’t see why it has to be all so tribal.

190BHP in the D3 seemed to be ok towing or with 7 up judging by the number of people who are happy with their old Discos. No reason why 240 won't be ok in a lighter vehicle.

But the bhp figure doesn’t really count, it’s the torque curve that’s everything. It’s comparatively easy to get 240 bhp out of an engine, if you get a moderate amount of torque at only one point very high up in the rev range and multiply that torque figure by lots and lots of revs.

I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with the 240 Ingenium (though it does need to rev to really fly - which it does convincingly!), but a much lower bhp output engine, with a broader torque curve, may pull a large amount of weight with a great more conviction Thumbs Up

Any one who is really interested in the D5 should visit the Disco5 forum to get the warts and all viewpoint.

Do you know the torque figure for the 2.0 240? More relevant, IMO, for towing and off road use. The bhp on some large truck engines is surprisingly low, the torque is immense though. Thumbs Up

Very impressive. I wonder if there's a torque curve graph out there. Would be interesting to compare with the old 2.7 TDV6.

The torque curve only matters in so far as it tells you at what revs the power is made. But it's the power that does the work.

If I stand on the end of a 3ft bar attached to an axle, I generate nearly 700lbft of torque. But I will generate no power. And the vehicle won't move. Or if it moves, it will do so very slowly because I will generate very little power even though there is, by car standards, a huge amount of torque available.

I wouldn't disagree that a "torquey" engine is more relaxing, more "effortless" to drive, but a more powerful one will do the job quicker if asked.

You said its now detuned to 430 N/m. Is that the correct figure?

The old 2.7TDV6 was about 325lbft at 1900rpm.

So the 240 is better on top end power and low end power (torque) too. Thumbs Up
