Been quoted £795.00 + VAT by Bristol Transmissions to replace / rebuild my rear diff, same cost for front.
Is this about the right price ?
Not even sure if its even the problem as no one (including my local LR Indie) can get to the bottom of the grinding noise coming from rear (Not all the time but seems worse when towing a Horsebox)
Wheel bearings replaced, Disks and pads changed EPB checked
So thinking it may be Diff (Did check the diff oil and there was evidence of some metal chards)
Starting to lose the will to live Its not a problem - Its a Challenge !!

It doesn’t sound like you’re being gouged.
New rear differentials start at around 1.5k if they have the green oval and “OEM” start at 700 GBP ex VAT. Add work and it’ll be more.

Parrot,
Have you checked the rear prop shaft? My front diff is a bit noisy and I gave City Gearboxes in Coventry a call and I'm sure they quoted £495 inc VAT but that was a year ago.
Does your quote include removal and replacement?

That does seem top money for a reconditioned item, I would have expected it to be nearer £500, at least that's what I have just paid (£475) for a recon. front diff. Of course only time will tell if mine was a bargain or not! But for now I have a quiet car again. Simon.
