Mr Red, have you ever had any occasion to have to return your cars? Any reason.... ? Or even had to phone them up or pop in?? And 100 % satisfaction from ordering until selling ???
And.. how long have you kept them for ??

My first Freelander was run for 2 1/2 years and 90,000 miles. It was a very reliable company car and was taken over by a colleague when I moved job. He still has the (2011) car to date, with over 170,000 miles on it and had no intention of parting with it.
Next, I ran a 2012 Freelander for about a year and around 35,000 miles. It developed a slight hesitation under acceleration which couldn't be fixed. I really wasn't that bothered, but used it (and some compensation from LR) as a 'man maths" style excuse to get a Freelander HSE Luxury; it was a very nice and faultless car.
About a year later, I traded it for the LR that I really wanted and bought a new D4 HSE. That was run for a further year and 35,000 miles without any issues. When the D5 came on the scene I panicked and decided to buy one of the very last D4's available new. Unfortunately, available stocks were rapidly picked clean and I eventually traded it for a 12,000 mile old D4 HSE Luxury.
I added 25,000 miles to that and it went down with a problem that put it in the workshop for a month. It turned out to be a high pressure fuel pump. I had nice loan cars from Land Rover while it was in and when I suggested to LR that I was possibly losing faith in the car, they made an unbelievably generous offer to put me in a new FF. I only expected something like free service!
30,000 Miles later, the FF has been perfect and it's now a keeper.
So, they've not all been perfect, but on the few occasions that I've had problems, LR have been very helpful and gone way beyond to make things right again.

When a new car has to go in the workshop for a month, and in the end the owner gets rid of it for a different model, due to the problem.
That is what I am talking about.
I understand mistakes can happen, but, it appears LR seem to make them more. From cars being delivered with wrong coloured interior, to cars with paint defects and ultimately cars that breakdown.

So there in lies the difference in perception between us.
Over 260,000 miles, just one car was in the workshop for a month, during which time I’m supplied with new RRS loan cars, cars that I added 700 miles a week to.
They eventually handed it back, cleaned and fixed after a month and compensate me, for my minimal inconvenience, with a 5 figure sum (over and above Carwow matching discount from list price!) towards my, otherwise unattainable, dream car.
I perceive that as being a bit of bad luck, a slow repair and a very generous way of making amends; you see it differently and I’m sure that you won’t be alone in that. But, I’m completely unstressed about it and happy with my lot 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Most things can be sorted, agreed, but it is the stress and frustration at the time it goes wrong that infuriates and people begin to lose trust.

It appears we’re not that different after all.

I'm normally pretty easy going and understanding, but I'm actually pretty annoyed about this now, especially as I'm not convinced that the dealer is treating this as a priority.
Just what I mean, it can be infuriating at the time something goes wrong. But yes, you are correct and most thing can be sorted later.

Nicely found quote
And when I put that opinion to Land Rover, they did what they did to put things right.
What more could they have done?
I’ve driven the annual mileage that I do since I started work full time in 1985. I’ve used multiple cars from Peugeot, Citroen, Austin Rover, Ford, BMW/MINI, Vauxhall, Nissan and Volvo and none of them have equalled the overall quality of support given by LR. BMW came close, while (unsurprisingly) Citroen were a complete and utter disaster, with (equally unsurprisingly) Ford being second worst! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Red, I agree with what you are saying about correcting the problems.
It’s just that some of the quotes on this thread show some people have lost the trust with their vehicle because they don’t know ‘when’ it will let them down.
Some have been let down from the dealer, some have been let down on the road. Some people like myself can not afford to be broken down on the side of the road. And as some have said, they’ve lost the trust to take their vehicles abroad, it can ruin an expensive holiday. Regardless if you have warranty.
Not all LRs are bad cars, I’m sure you can get a good ‘un, but, there are other brands that are less likely to go wrong, wether that be from the dealer or on the road.

I would imagine that there are cars that are less likely to break down.
Take, for example, my brother’s Toyota pick up that he runs. He’s much more sensible than me and spends no more than about £5,000 a time and loves them; his current one is a similar age to your own D3. They are pretty reliable and can usually be fixed with a large hammer and some welding, but there’s so little to go wrong. Much of the engineering underneath hasn’t been seen in any LR product since the demise of the Series 3 in the Middle Ages, although his newest one even has air con - even if it doesn’t work!
As far as new cars go, my own experience says otherwise, although a colleague of mine has the most unreliable, 2 year and 90,000 mile old, Disco Sport on the planet and he won’t be replacing it with another! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

For me it is death by a thousand cuts, my current car has had no issues and will be 3 years old in December but I don't have a dealership within an hours drive that I have any faith in. When Guava went and Hunters proved to be so incompetent the end became clearer. What do I replace it with though? I don't need 7 seats, I do want 3.5t towing and I do want it to be reasonably competent off road. Cayenne? Touareg? Mercedes? I guess I'll have to go and drive them.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Just tipping over the hour would get you to Wimbledon Landrover. Can’t fault them so far.
Will not be easy to find such an effortless tow car.

To Red. Yes, I agree that LR usually do right by us; the consumers. But my anxiety is that I’m in the middle of nowhere with either my dog, or young family member on board; and the car breaks. It’s all well and good that LR will fix it; but in the moment, it doesn’t help at all. It’s a nightmare; one that I’ve already experienced. Once bitten, twice shy...
Driving long distances / abroad, when you don’t trust the car you’re in, is a source of mild anxiety for most.

I can appreciate that, although in >260,000 miles of driving a combination of new, or Approved used, Land Rovers I’ve had to have only two recoveries, on one car, for the same fault. That’s why I’m pretty confident each time I head out.
Compare that to the last new Citroen that I had (top spec C5 estate 2.0 HPi), which spent 5 of the 12 months that I had it in the garage, having been recovered multiple, times - I literally lost count. Not rubbish stuff, like rattles and faulty sat navs, but full blown mechanical engine failures, requiring (at various times) two new pairs of cam shafts and one new engine and it still didn’t work!! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

It does depend on the dealership - my nearest is Matford Exeterand so far I have struck 3 very good puchase deals with them for which Roger Young in Saltash were unable to come close with. However their service department over the last 20 years has proved to be rubbish whereas Roger Young has been first class. They are about 47 miles away, over an hour's travel time, but they always come and collect, leave a courtesy car and return my vehicle nice and clean .
