A recent comment from member Rupert suggested that the rubbing strips on my D3 were too low.
Having downloaded the fitting instructions I have discovered that he is correct - but only by 7-10mm - nothing to worry about too much.
But worse than that - they are upside down on the front doors, ie. on the wrong sides.
A fact confirmed by several pictures in the gallery.
So, the question is: a) Has anyone been able to remove the strips, and b) been able to reuse them with new adhesive?

My 2c worth - I wouldn't bother - I had to look really hard to see the difference
I agree with Heine. If you hadn't pointed it out, I would not have noticed.
IMHO : Leave it as it is. You run the risk, allbeit a small one, of damaging the paintwork during removal and you may end up having to fork out £100+ if you can't persude them to stick back on again.Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

I think the front ones look Ok even though upside down, and I agree that the mouldings (they have a metal backing strip behind them) will probably distort when you pull them off. Leave 'em alone I say.
I thought there would be little chance of them coming off in a reusable state! Though they are not stuck on particularly well - slight lifting on the ends but nothing too bad.
If the considered opinion is that you wouldn't notice unless having it pointed out I will leave them for now. Don't fancy not having them fitted with the number of inconsiderate f**kers in supermarket and, particularly, airport carparks.
Though I will be keeping an eye out on ebay for a set with a very low price!Discovery 3 TDV6 5-Seat

I agree - you are probably better-off leaving them as they are. Only a fanatic would really notice
however, I suspect that you could probably remove them using dental floss and wd-40. You work the dental floss behind the strip and work your way along. You can then clean-off the gunk with wd-40. Heating things up with a hairdrier first is also a good idea. (I have debadged cars in the past with this method and it has worked well)
Getting them back on again is a different story - no idea but there must be some product that would be suitable.

I had exactly the same problem, did'nt notice until I'd had the car 6 months though. Mentioned it to the dealer (they were fitted from new) and they sorted it out for me but I believe that they had to order a new set of rubbing strips as they did not come off easily.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

If you really want to get them off heat them up, should soften the adhesive enough to make them removable. No-Nails tape (exterior strength) will hold them on when you refit them (though I doubt it'll ever come off again)
TBH I wouldn't bother, they look fine to me, definitely not worth the hassle

Rubbing Strips - Removal and Refixing
Hello ,
My wife has just asked me to get a set of rubbing strips fitted to her Discovery 3. I am a bit of a novice but do they just stick to the doors without any rivets ? I always thought they were bolted or rivited on.Is it a job a novice could do?
They use a strong automotive adhesive tape. Just measure twice then once more to be certain before you stick them. I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I would not bother moving them either mate, too much messing around for something that looks fine. It will only bug you for a while Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"

I think they look better that way up, sort of follow the curve of the arches better.
Are you sure it's not everyone else who's got them upside down?

Admittedly I would not have been too bothered, was it not for the fact that after having had my passenger door resprayed (was keyed ) a new one was fitted the correct way around. So I ended up with the passenger side being the correct way around and the drivers side being upside down.1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold
