The reason I believe was a change to the transfer box mechanical set up. This means that there is no synchro on the low range gear whereas there is on the high range one. Most of the time you want to change from low to high when you've built up momentum while towing. The reverse situation is a bit frantic trying to maintain momentum.
I can check with the engineer in work why they changed if you're desperate to find out.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

That would be great, especially if you could get any background information on why the design was changed.Disco4 V6 SC HSE (MY2014)

Changing down you could have a serious engine braking problem and excessive engine over reving! It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

NO! , the car is smart! and it does not allow you to do it outside the established ranges and it scolds you for trying it through the message screen!lost in translation!

On the odd occasion when I need low range, almost without fail I'll be driving very slowly anyway, so to stop and engage low range hasn't ever bothered me. In fact I don't think I knew you used to be able to do it on the move on older models
Switching back to high range is something I do on the move, but again at low speed.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Obviously this very practical feature has been installed in the D4 because it has been done in the past and caused engine or transmission damage. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I could change the ratio down on my old D3 while on the move without any warnings It can when others can't,

I will only say it one more time, my D3, manual box, MY 06 allows me to select the low range in motion once I put the neutral and does not issue any warning when I do it within the correct speed range as it is logical, instead if I do the same thing but at an excessive speed, I have had that mistake a couple of times ... or three, the low range does not enter and the little information screen on the spedometer warns me by means of a text that the selection can not be made due to excessive speed and at the same time it emits beeps of adverending !!! I insist D3 MY06 !!lost in translation!
