Amk compressor upgrade - parts required if buying used.

Sorry if this info is out there but i cant find a definitive answer.

Suspect my hitachi pump is faulty so thinking about options and wondered if someone could clarify please.

Considering buying a used but like new amk compressor. I understand i will need bracket pipes and a relay. Can find pipes on ebay, but what spec is the relay and where would i get one?

Why is the relay different from my current one?

Are all amk compressors the same or have they changed.

I had to swap my ecu so it's already running all software.

Sorry for all the questions. The car is new to me and without mot so I need to get it running on a budget so I can mot and have peace of mind it's sound. I don't mind replacing again in future if it fails.

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
I know you didn’t ask my opinion and happy to get shot down by more experienced members but. I think the swap to AMK is overrated.

I have an AMK on my disco, the manufacture date was 2016, it’s been throwing a fault for 10 months. So it’s less than 2 years old. And this isn’t an isolated case, quite a few people had the same issue - worth just thinking about especially with buying second hand with no warranty.

Do you know what wrong with your hitachi? As there is a refurb kit for all the seals and drier beads on eBay?

Just a thought.

Regards
Chris

I'll go the opposite way, and fitted an AMK to a customers car in October 2012. The very first AMK compressor I ever fitted to a Disco 3

Then I bought the car

Up until October/November time this year (when it was taken off the road) , having covered 6 years and 90k miles, it still works just as well as the day it was fitted Thumbs Up

I'll second that, my own MY08 D3 is still running on its original AMK with only a descant and filters change needed 18 months ago. I think its at around 240,000 kms now and still running like a mouses heart! Smile

Thanks for all the comments much appreciated

I have error C1A13-64 (2C) Pressure does not decrease when venting gallery - algorithm based failure.

Suspension error when starting ignition and unable to raise or lower when going through iid. It worked fine briefly. I have ordered a pressure valve spring kit. Not sure a service kit would fix this?

Basically my pump needs valve/service kit and a brass collet. I also broke lower case mounting bolt parts and the bracket. My ecu also has amk software already. So pricing all this up, I was wondering if it makes more sense to pay slightly more to go amk. But, I just need it working before I justify great expense to her indoors!

I've read it the amk v hitachi seems 50/50 Smile

Flack I'll pm you Thumbs Up

seams drastic to order a new compressor for the fault "Pressure does not decrease when venting gallery"

I think the exhaust valve is on the end of the compressor. But I also hear they can break when undoing.

But as its a project car? you may as well try and undo it before buying new

So you got your new sus ecu fitted and car on the floor now? and left with this?

Yes appreciate a bit drastic hence why not ordered. Just exploring options and costs and some of the amk info wasnt clear. I have air on my d2 and it's been the only real pain with the car.

I think ill replace the exhaust valve and see as your right, nothing to lose.

Yes i bought it as a project. The new (used) ecu solved all my voltage issues and initial testing was good. I had it off the bump stops. When i went to do a proper calibration, I couldn't get the front end up, and I got suspension error. Then this fault.

Thanks for the comments. I'll update my other thread when valve replaced and back on car.

What was it like before you started calibration

Hi Pete.

I forget the exactly what I did, but after ecu I could raise each corner with the iid. I think I did this in calibration mode, but didn't save results. Each corner raised and lowered. I had the car close to normal stance.

Next day I got the car stuck with rears up on max and the fronts close to bump stops. Basically I calibrated and measured all corners. Then saved this back. But using the switch to go to lower mode or extended mode brought up the error and dash suspension error. Rears went to max height and front dropped. Iid wouldn't then adjust corners. I could lower rear, but not fronts, and the compressor would not kick in when trying to raise any corner. Dash had suspension light lit.

The wheels are off at the mo as I'm tidying up the brakes, but exhaust valve should be here by weekend so I plan to fix and refit, gets brakes and wheels back on for weekend. Then do some more organised testing.

Popped the exhaust valve bolt off without any breakage Very Happy

Thanks
Mike
