Have a look at these... Have fitted some to a customers D3 for this very purpose.
Just stick to roof lining with velcro tape and wire in with existing interior light. Whole job takes 20 mins and can easily be removed. Lots of light and the strips are practically flush with the roof so never get in the way... Some blue ones underneath would look cool too!!
Did you fit the waterproof or non waterproof ones ?G4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Fitted the waterproof ones as only a couple of £ more. Assumed they would be stronger a with a bit more epoxy around them!

I used 1 x 300mm strip which gave a reasonable amount of light. If I was to do it again think I would use 2 x 300mm or go the whole hog with a 800mm. Think 300mm is fine for finding things, if you are working on kit in the back then a bit more would be better.
Advantage of the velcro fixing is that it is easy to add more if you need to. I was also thinking of puting a strip along the lower inside edge of the upper tailgate as I often use the lower tailgate as a table / bench.

Wish I'd seen those before I put the DOT-IS in the back of mine. They look as if they really spread the light around a fair bit.Rob Smith

Hi All, Had similar issue with D2 and now D3. Why can't they design a decent working light for the interior!!!!!!!!
coz you dont need one in Tesco's car park!!!!
Seriously go to your local caravan dealer and you can get a low wattage strip light in 12 volt for about £20. Its easy to wire in and it has a switch fitted. The type I use is made by Lumo Lighting part no. FO301 12 v dc 8watts
14" x 2" x3/4" and cost £18.99. I think they have a web site.
AND THEN THERE WAS LIGHT!!!!!! [/b]

Update - fitted lights.
Ok fitted my new L.E.D lights as reccomended by XTC
New lights - 2 x 300mm ones
A small push on/off button as i wanted to be able to turn them on and off seperate from interior lights.
Drilled a small hole in the right hand side cubby for the switch..no worries when i sell the car , just put a small rubber blanking gromet in there to fill the hole.
Switch fitted. No need to remove the cubby surround , just pull the back end out and theres room to get your hand in.
Then basically pulled the surround off were the rear interior light is .Cut off some of the supplied wire (on the L.E.D's) as there was quite a lot.Connected up to the interor light and through my switch.Cable tie'd my spare cable up and replaced the plastic surround.
The L.E.D's were attached with some velcro i stuck to the back of the lights ...i can then remove them or move them about if i need too.
One light fitted
Two lights fitted
L.E.D's on
Picture taken with just interior lights (no flash on camera)
Picture taken with interior and L.E.D's on (no flash on camera)
Makes such a difference
Can't belive i waited this long struggling with the dim rear light.
Oh ..and if i leave the switch on when i lock the car (or shut the doors) the L.E.D's dim down like the interior lights ..nice touch ...
Thanks again XTC for your reccomendation

Rear Lighting
Looks just the ticket Wiggs - nice job.
Trying to work out in my mind how you routed the wire from the LED strips to the switch.
Should go out to the motor to have a look and work it out for myself but the outside temperature here has just dropped in to 'the FBH fire-up zone' and I've just lit a fire so hence the question!!

Pull the rubber seal off around the boot area ...theres a nice big gap in there ..
Feed the wire through the roof lining ..only a few inch's at the top of the plastic cowling for the 3rd row seat belts.
Ends up here ...
You can proberly get a better idea from this picture ...
Ignore the mess its was just for testing.
I did fit them like that at first , but the 2 wires going to the L.E.D's stood out to much when i put the cover on so i moved then around so the wires came out the opposite ends.
Hope that makes sence..G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
