Strange Noise
Hi,
Got a strange noise I can't sort... Any ideas please?
It sounds like a harmonic noise (if you can curl your tongue and blow down it, it's the same noise), or similar to blowing over the top of a glass bottle.
I think it's coming from the ns/f of the car although very difficult to locate.
It's intermittent, but it happens when driving straight at certain speeds (50 ish) and by slightly turning to the right. Knocking the car into neutral doesn't make it go away, but touching the break slightly does, as does turning slightly to the left.

I would say wheel bearing but almost impossible to say without actually hearing it. My diff bearings are noisy at certain speeds at the front.Jarrod

Hi - here's a link to the sounds. It sounds very very loud on the recording, in reality it's not actually that loud!
Any thoughts please? To make the sound, I was steering slightly to the right or left.
Somehow on the recording it sounds more like a binding sound - it sounds just like blowing over the top of a bottle!

Thank you. Around 50mph upwards and when turning gently to the left or right. So, if I was on a Motorway in a straight line, it wouldn't make the sound. If I changed lanes, it would whilst I was steering.
Does ever alter in pitch which is a bit weird, and knocking into drive sorts it. Only thing that stops it is gentle brake pressure. Wheels are not getting hot either, so am assuming nothing is binding...
Thank you!2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Well it's certainly different
It could be a wheel bearing and the roof rack is a good point too, but I'm tempted to suggest power steering! Have a look at the state of the fluid, it should be green to brown in colour. If its very dark change it, it should be changed anyway as part of service routine but rarely is.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Thanks very much! Good shout on the powersteering - will take a look. It actually does sound very similar to the funny noise that the old D2 used to make on full lock years ago.
Not roof bars sadly, but does sound like wind resistance (I've event been out taping up bits of the doors and windscreens to see if it was that in the past!2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

Strange. You say it disappears when you touch the brakes, it could be pads vibrating in the carrier. It may be worth a clean.Kev
