Every model down except L405/L494
Said it before, the cheaper end of the market is being squeezed, while the rich are not affected

given an 'average' family mid-sized hatch (such as a Focus) goes for £20k and upwards for anything more than poverty spec then your dream of a sub £20k 'proper' 4x4 is exactly that; a dream I'm afraid.
For years the profit for LR, as it is with other brands, is in higher spec variants, 90% of the cost is the same whatever the spec' of vehicle so sell 'em with trinkets and baubles for the real money to flow. Hence why the 'farmers market' is not of a great importance to the brand in business terms

A real shame the new defender is not a highly scaleable, utility vehicle, that could range from 20k to what ever depending on engines, interiors, drive systems etc. Could appeal to businesses, industrial companies, farmers, everyone, rather than a slightly revised version of what they already have.

the piece price of parts alone for a 'proper' 4x4 is over £20k, a 'power pack' and chassis, suspension, etc. would be getting close to that figure alone

Just make the base model on normal springs, with a basic full time 4wd. Jimny style (although that is rwd, with 4wd selectable). The current practice of targeting soccer mums and well to do chinese, has been short sighted. The same for surrendering the utilities market, once you surrender a market area, it will be vastly harder to get back into it.

Jimnys higher spec model which is still pretty basic is still iro £18,500, I would have thought a £30k starting price was more realistic meaning a nearly new will be around £20k. But it has to be good news that UK sales are up. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Maybe at retail price. Cost price to the manufacturer will not be anywhere near £20k My D3 Build Thread

I sat in a brand new one at the weekend, absolutely fantastic! But at £18K and with a 2 year waiting list (according to the dealer) it's a no I'm afraid. 2014 D4 XS

But in respect of all the parts and systems made to go to into a vehicle, JLR is not the 'manufacturer', it is the assembler of components made elsewhere
Just the cost of materials or 'parts' is 64% of JLR turnover. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Selling like hot cakes, while Land Rover has no equivalent.

You would like to think they would be in the business of making money by selling cars. Especially 4x4 ones
