D4 rear climate - reliable? |
|
Totally stuck with what to replace my D4 with. Looked at a RRS but nearly did myself an injury testing the 3rd row - most pointless seats ever. Friends say their XC90 is unreliable.
Looks like it may be another D4. Would benefit from rear air con as the kids like it freezing for some reason.
Is the rear air con in the D4 blighted by the same issues as the D3, namely that the pipes to the rear corrode and it's a body off to replace? I've only seen D3 owners complaining about this issue.

Had my pipework on the D3 for the rear aircon repaired on several occasions in my 10 yrs of ownership and never had to take the body off though I believe it is a lot of messing around but it worked perfectly between repairs. I also read that someone replace the pipes with rubber flexi versions.
As for the D4 I believe from around 2014 onwards it was dropped to meet Euro regs. D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

Could be wrong here but I thought rear aircon was dropped to accommodate Adblue

You’re probably correct it was something like that and obviously adblue was created to meet euro emmision standards D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

Yes not available >2014. However from what I hear elsewhere, they reduced the temperature of the main cabin climate to compensate!
2013 seems the ideal year for D4 (8 speed box + faster Sat Nav + no AdBlu + no Stop Start + surround cams work + climate works + rear climate) if you ignore the road tax.

they surely did
You're prob right about the 2013 but euro 5 is it? I think even Euro 6 may run into trouble in the near future if they start restricting where you can take them i.e. city centres D4 HSE Lux MY16 Club Waitomo

If you don’t mind losing the brand / image then look at the Ssangyong Rexton. Has 7 seats, rear air con on the Ultimate range and is decent to drive. Mine has been great so far, 1 parking sensor has failed and it needed some ad blue but that’s it. 7 year bumper to bumper warranty and fixed servicing plan is also helpful. It has as much kudos as a Aldi carrier bag but I am past caring. Tows the horse box like you don’t know it is on there (3.5 ton tow capacity) has low range and 4 wheel drive when needed. Currently at 34mpg on average and has all the toys / Apple Car play etc Is it a Landrover or BMW or a Merc, no. But it only cost £34k brand new with a few discounts applied. My 2016 Euro6 has rear aircon so it is not a Euro6 issue. However, I heard elsewhere that the rear aircon was dropped in the UK a couple of years ago for some reason. Mine is not unique, I looked at a couple of different 2016s with rear aircon before buying this one. Works perfectly so far, but the cars is hardly used yet, so ask me again in a couple of years, or months...

Well, you learn something every day.
Rear aircon wasn't an option on MY12 D4 HSE, and AFAIK it was never reintroduced on the D4. MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

In the U.K. rear aircon was dropped around the middle of 2015 about the same time as Adblue was introduced. These two things affected my car purchase which was ordered April and arrived June 2015. Gary

Sirod, just to confirm, is your version of Euro6 adblue same as ours?

Not sure what you mean by same version but it is an HSE, SDV6 euro6 with adblue and it’s built in august 2016.

Yes that sounds the same as uk spec, it was the adblue bit I was curious about.
Can I ask what you have in the left rear boot compartment, ie behind the trim where on the D3/4 all the rear a/c machinery would be?

On the left rear in the boot is the vent for the air con, and I believe the machinery for it is behind the vent.
