Another crank failure?
A good mate of mine from work just called... He’s just leaving his local LR dealer in a Pug 508 as his wife’s Disco4 with only 24k on the clock died t’other day. From what he described it sounds to me very much like it’s spun it’s bearings and died. Think it’s a 66 plate from memory.
It’s currently with the dealer to speak to LR CS and take it from there. My mate is obviously not too happy.Cheers,
Gareth

The only time that JLR MIGHT take any notice is when we stop buying their rubbish, which sadly ain’t going to happen because there are always new customers drawn in.

Just sold a Defender due to theft anxiety and considered a Ranger - couldn't do it and I've taken my chances on a Disco commercial.

Current ford diesels do not have a good rep, especially euro6.

Update:
My colleague is not clear on whether it was spun bearings or snapped crank. The only detail he obtained was that there was significant swarf in the oil filter.
Regardless, LR paid every penny to have a replacement engine fitted at the dealer.
As he is not in the slightest bit interested in cars, I don't have any more detail unfortunately.Cheers,
Gareth

I had a 2.2L Ranger super cab Limited spec with a hardtop on lease for three years and couldn't fault it. I took it down to France and up to Scotland a few times without drama. It was a family car at the front end and a work truck at the back, you have a massive load area too. They don't ride as comfortably as a Disco and probably aren't as capable for proper off-roading, but if you're self-employed you can book 100% against your tax bill. I only got rid of it because the lease was up and the happy gang at the local skip told me commercials needed to get a special pass to get in.
