| When should I notice the fuel burning heater working? |
|
Apologies if this is obvious stuff but when should I see the engine being pre-heated? we've had some lowish temperatures but when I get in the vehicle the engine always seems to be starting from cold on the temperature gauge.
Cheers

I could be wrong but I think its when the temp gets below 5C.
I dont find mine very effective but it definately is working, I can see and smell the fumes coming out of the exhaust by the front passenger wheel arch.

You'll only see it being pre-heated if you fit a timer and start it in advance of starting the engine. Otherwise it should kick in to help the engine warm up quicker if it's below 5°C and the engine coolant is below (I think) 75°C when you start the engine
Not so common...

Wouldn't it be better if they pushed out hot air though?

Just came back from Austria -14 at night, D3 started perfectly each morning and FBH came on as expected after a few minutes - bit worrying when it does come on as the heat generated as the FBH warms up looks like a small fire has broken out !

I have just got a 6 month old SE and the FBH is working - However I am concerned about the amount of Smoke it makes - it seems excessive - is this normal ? (I would post some photos if I could work out how to do it) Have uploaded phots to Gallery

And it's from the wrong side of the car, so I dread to think how much smoke it's kicking out at it's own exhaust point!!!! Mine is like that most cold mornings. It smokes initially, but clears after about a minute, and it works just fine. I don't think its a problem. Silver TDV6 HSE

Wish I'd had a camera with me this morning, the "burp" of smoke was fantasitc - temperature and humidity must have been just right to create a really big burst of white smoke as I stopped at the end of the road
My FBH was obviously working well Rob Smith
