Adding speakers to rear end on Disco 2007 SE

Hi,
I'm in Aus and own an SE 2007 model, it only came with 6speakers standard and I dont think they are even HK speakers, everytime I have a full house ppl sitting at the back complain that they cannot hear the music, thinking of adding extra 2 or may be 3 (2spk + sub) to SE audio system, can someone tell me how or what would be the best way to have this done thanks.
Many thank for your help in advance

Cheers
PG

I would replace the existing Oem speakers which are sh Censored t with after market ones.
This is what I did:
http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic7072.html

You may want to put full range ones in the back if you are concerned about their sound quality.
You can then alter the fader more to the rear.

PG,
I had this issue too - regularly carrying 6 passengers - the back 2 couldn't hear properly...

I just went to the local car stereo specialists and had them put a couple of mid-range Pioneer speakers in the D pillars - much better - should be standard on all 7 seaters...

cheers,

Simon

Hi Simon,
Did they piggy-back off the rear door speaker connections? (So fader would still work).

Do you have any photos? I am interested in doing this too.
Cheers,
Rob

Jonesy - sorry - meant to mention - yes - they picked them up at the bottom of the B pillar I think - piggy-backed - sufficient output, and yes, the fader still works.

cheers,

Simon

PG, the LR group here in Melbourne actually works with a group who install aftermarket DVD players, etc. They are currently upgrading my speakers and putting in an amp to drive them. I was impressed with the options they offered. It might be worth going to whichever group your local LR guys use for this type of work as they know the car in and out...........I got a quote and then decided I could get the amp cheaper elsewhere, but not the speakers so be careful!

BTW- they are putting in focal splits in the front, focals in the rear and a rockford fosgate amp to drive them all. I'm thinking that anyone in the third row will be able to hear these loud and clear. Hope this helps!

Hi Neo,

Are they going to install the e4300 under one of the front seats?

Cheers,

Rob,
Not sure what the E4300 refers to. I am having the P-4004 amp installed under one of the back seats. There is enough clearance with the seat down to accomodate this. I am also have a 3sixty put in (http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_categories.asp?cat_id=1&locale=en_US&p_status=) which I hope will fit where the sat nav kit would normally go.

Just picked up my new sled yesterday and am completely not happy with the sound quality of the tuner. CD's sound ok, but the reception is pretty crap. Not sure if the 3sixty will sort this out or if I will need to LR to have a look at the stereo.....

Gotta say I do have a serious case of the permagrin at the moment though!

p.s. also having a parrot bluetooth kit fitted next week as well as ipod cable run to the console. i had the stealer put in a nokia car kit, but was then told the noise cancelling wouldnt work with my blackberry. The stealer removed it and I am having a parrot system (with lcd) put in next week along with the speakers, amp, processor and ipod.

Get back to me on the e4300 thing........Ronnie

Hi Ronnie,
Sorry, got the model numbers mixed up! The E4300 is a JL Audio amp (not Rockford Fosgate). It does 4 channels, but accepts speaker level inputs and is small enough to go close to fitting under driver seats (350x235x60mm).

I have been warned about putting the amp under the middle row seats: while you can tilt the seat back forward, you will not be able to lay it flat to the floor. Not sure if this is important to you or not, but something to keep in mind.

There are a few small, class D amps - which take speaker level inputs - about to be released on the market, which will fit under the front seats. Focal solid 4 (availabe early May), Blaupunkt THA475 PnP (whenever Bosch get their act together!) are two that I am looking at.

Cheers,
Rob

All this sounds (no pun intended) like you would be better off opting up to the Hi ICE pack at order rather than rooting around like this??

At $3650 Shocked for the Hi ICE Pack you can install a better system for less.

Rob,
That's cool...Just picked up my D3 on Friday, so Im pretty sure there are a number of numbers Laughing that I am unaware of at this point. The specs on the P4004 amp from rockford fosgate is Width (inches) 16-7/16
Height (inches) 2-1/2 Depth (inches) 11-3/16. We placed this in the car and the amp actually sits within the frame of the seat (there is a little bar underneath the seat and it sits below this). We had the seat already lowered when we pulled up the seat.

When you said "flat on the floor", does the middle row of seats go lower than the back row? If not, then I am pretty sure the rockford fosgate p4004 will fit. Apologies for sounding daft about it all, but my D3 and I havent fully gotten to know each other yet.......Gimme another week! Shocked

Wopac- the Hi Ice Pack is certainly an option, but my system will be about half that........exclusive of the luxury car tax we would also have to pay on the $3550.........I am hoping that the system that is getting put in will be ATLEAST comparable.....I'll know tomorrow about 5 pm.

Cheers guys, Ronnie

Hi Ronnie,

With the middle row seats - you first fold down the seat back by using the latch at the top beside the head rest... then when it is horizontal, there is a vinyl loop under the front of the seat base which you pull on - at the same time as pushing down on the seat back - and it will drop another 70mm. This gives a completely flat "bed" from the rear of the front seats - all the way to the tailgate.

I tried to fit my hand under the seat when it was folded flat - not sure how an amp will go in there...

BTW - I am interested in hearing how much EQ the factory head unit needs.

P.S. Have fun with your new D3!

Cheers,
Rob

Great, I wasnt missing any tricks then. I knew of this position, but thought there might be even more.

How we tried the amp out for sizing was by putting the seat into the "somebody wants to get into the back two seats position). This exposes the metal brace I mentioned the amp sits lower than.

It means we will have to use only one side for access to the rear, but our cargo area is pretty well claimed by the Jed the Wondermutt (Hungarian Vizsla).

BTW- please tell me that both seats go into the access position that allows passengers into the back? Jeez, I would hate to think they dont and I put the amp in the wrong hole.......We tried it on the driver's side

I have asked the guys to save the before and after graph which is generated by the 3Sixty as this will show the change from the factory stereos EQ. I'll post it if it is something I can take home to mommy.

The guys called a bit eariler and said the install wont be done until tomorrow. Looks like I am walking home........ Whistle Thank god for the copious amounts of pubs between here and the casa.
