Simple D3 headlight mod
I applied some matte black film to the top slanted strip on the D3 headlamps. Now I can't picture them without it. Makes them appear less tall and more finished IMO. I need to find some black film similar to Java to match my D3s paint but you'll get the idea. I imagine this could be done to D4 lamps as well. The standard colors should be easy to match with film.

I've done something different using Black film to my D3.
In the image below you can just see where I've covered the silver rectangular bit.
It looks much better in my opinion, and might add your idea too.
I'll take a better image later.

You could always mask off the area and then use a small can of spray the same as the body colour?

The sample film I used was 3M 1080 Vinyl Wrap - Matte Black. I have a few other samples so I'm going to see what matches the Java color the best and put that on.16 D4 Landmark

When I first did the bottom bit it was just to see if I liked it before doing it properly inside the light with black paint when I get around to doing the De-Tango mod, but have always thought the film I used was too shiny.
I've added a strip across the top today as per jjvd2s suggestion, which has just highlighted the need for Matt Black or body colour film, I don't like it as it is.
I have some Carbon effect Wrapping film which looks much more matt, so will try it again with that, or try to get some Silver film which will match the body.

Yep definitely looks best with same paint color as the body. I guess you could use touch up paint or have them sprayed.

That works - saw this D3 on the D4 Grill thread and couldn't work out why it was so different - now I know!

I ended up doing something similar as part of the detango. I spray painted the mirrored parts that are left inside the clear plastic lens when you separate the light assembly. I ended up using a dark grey metallic similar to the bonatti grey. I did mask off the signal and cornering lamp mirrors so that they still function properly. Looks great. Between that and the D4 style grille, my 05 looks years younger
