Hi all
Can anyone link me up with a winch and fixture for my2005 d3 please?
Want one that sits behind the original bumper ideally and the bottom line cheapest option.
I’ve been on eBay and google but surely £800+ is a lot?
I’ve got a 3.5 tonne winch already@ 4.5x6.5 inch bolt fixtures
5x16 inch h/W overall size of winch
Surely there’s a way I can make a simple steel bracket at the local fabricators?
Or a service that makes a bolt on plate specific to the lr3 with winch?

You mean a 3500lb winch or an 8000lb winch. Most winches are 4.5"x10.5" foot print.
For a Disco 3, you need a minimum of 9000lb (4T) or 12,500lb ideally (5.9T). If you fit a discreet winch behind the bumper (Uncle Ray, Terrafirma, Prospeed all make them) then you will need to run synthetic rope as you can't see the cable being laid on the drum easily so it can go horribly wrong quickly. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

Hi I’m not entirely sure I’ll have to check: it was mainly for using to raise a pole for a marquee that would be towed with the lr3. But I guess I’ll need one that can handle the vehicle too at some point.
Let’s say I got a new one, is it possible to bolt on with some thick cut steel plates?

No, the front winch cradles are designed to replace the factory bumper bar that's an integral structural part of the car. If you just use some thick steel plates, you'll struggle, there's nothing easy to attach it to unlike a Discovery 1/2, Range Rover classic or Defender.
A discreet mount is about £300 and a decent winch around £400, then it will take a day or so to fit. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

Not meant to hijack this topic, but as i am interested too in a winch, and since the question raises here, what winch...
@ TigerRecovery
Since you seem to know your stuff... may i ask where and what brand supplies a decent winch around £400 ? @ 4T or 5,xT ?
Thnx in advance Best regards
Harold

ebay is full of stuff. The good and the bad/rubbish
i like to know what is the good stuff, proven good, with pulling real Disco's 3 / 4 or simmilar out of the deep mud... for more than 10 times.....the stuff that lasts...
what are the brands then? Warn we all know i presume , but are there good and more budget wise interestiong options ? Brands and models? Best regards

Warrior/Winch Max/Superwinch/Warn/Comeup/TDS Goodwinch/Red Winch are all reasonable winches. The main thing to look for is ones that can be serviced easily and parts are available.
I've personally used Superwinch for the last 20 years and have had no issues. I know others have used Warn for the same reason.
Winchmax and Warrior are a good quality budget winch and if you get a deal for the winch and rope go for the synthetic version. 1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8
