But surely it's sexist ?

Presumably it should be "You guys & dolls" ?

From a recent company training exercise, yes really!, the only safe greeting to multiple people is Good morning everyone.

Being pedantic- It really should be “everybody” when spoken, “everyone” when written. Smile

It’s just a change in the use of words. Vocabulary, like society, changes with the times.

I know plenty of women who dislike the phrase because "guys" is a male term. Certainly saying a group of women "are you guys ready to order?" might be considered a bit strange, but I've heard it often enough.

It's an American company LT, they have no idea about the correct use of English.

I have suggested in the past that I was offended by their incorrect use of my language when they communicate with me Whistle , but strangely enough didn't hear back from them.

I use the word 'gang' in place of 'guys' if there are men and women (and others) in a group I am refering to.
Can't believe this offends anyone

(though I've heard 'you people' being a phrase that upsets some)

about 5 years ago when i was an instructor with the Army Cadet Force, i was on a leadership course and part of that was a debate so the staff could see if we were able to discuss a topic reasonably.
Our groups instructor posed the question, ''should we accept transgender cadets''
I was first to respond with ''No, not at this time''

I very nearly got my head ripped off by the rest of the group when i said it, without being given the chance to expand.
Once they had calmed down, i gave my reasons for that response which we were that we didnt have the infrastructure to support transgender cadets, we only had male/female/disabled ablutions and in most cases the adults used the disabled ones as there were no specific facilities for adults in local cadet detachments.
On camps we only had male and female ablutions and accommodation, and space was limited enough on most camps we went on.
We, as adult instructors, were also not trained to deal with the emotional, mental and any other issues that may have come hand in hand with transgender or non binary teenagers.

Most of the group saw my reasoning and were then in agreement that we werent ready as an organisation but about 3 were still adamant i was being transphobic, homophobic etc.

I have no objections to anyone thinking/being/naming what ever they feel they need for themselves, but i do object strongly to having my life dictated to, being told what i must think and me not being allowed to have my own reasoned opinions.

i don't tend to take offence at being called a fat Censored but i don't demand that people drastically alter their daily routines to accommodate me.

Exactly. Thumbs Up

This thread got me thinking about whether being non-binary offers any form of evolutionary advantage. This is a bit of a long read but quite interesting.

Everyone can think what they like and have their own opinions.

A problem may arise if what you say is either illegal and/or against the policies of your employer or company that you are contracted to.

that was and i believe still is the biggest issue, they cant be in boys accommodation, they cant be in girls accommodation and they obviously cant be in adults male or female accommodation. There simply isnt the space right now to accommodate more than male and female.

Lets not forget that some adult male prisoners have faked being transgender in order to be moved to a female prison and have ended up causing major problems.
Hormonal teenage lads, and girls, can be very devious and in some cases are far from the innocent little son/daughter their parents believe them to be. (i have first hand witness experience in this having caught a few when away on camps, and they didnt like it when we had to call their parents to drive for 4 hours to come and collect them)

Now that response is where it gets ridiculous. Is any announcement to be completely neutral ("good morning passengers")

You can't say passengers as the announcement will be heard by, in the main, people who are NOT passengers ... they may be about to be passengers or have just ceased being one. Or even someone seeing off or greeting someone in one of those roles.

And it's a good job you didn't suggest "good morning travellers" as that implies everyone hearing it is a p!k3y and that's never going to end well.
