I am now non binary

WTF! Demi Lovato ( who she) has announced that she is now non binary and in future will be referred to as they/them as opposed to she/her. She is also pansexual which, apparently, means she is attracted to people of any gender.
I tried this new approach on my wife but thought I should tone it down a little lest she got upset. So I called her by shouting " Oy! You" and she smashed me in the face. Am I missing something?

Thanks for that heads up. But what about her pro nouns. Have you ever heard such rubbish. Just how abnormal are these individuals? Not a lot I would imagine just an attempt to get noticed. Why does the BBC give them space on their news programs when we are still battling to control COVID? Who is she anyway? Must be an age thing.

It is nothing new, for example all Native American societies acknowledged three to five gender roles: Female, male, Two Spirit female, Two Spirit male and transgendered.

It was just too much for the European settlers and their religion to deal with.

I’m sure to be corrected but my understanding is you are either male or female! The rest is in your head.

Does it matter whether it's physical or psychological? Why does it matter how people identify?

Sexual organs are differentiated first, and then the brain is sexually differentiated "under the influence, mainly, of sex hormones such as testosterone, estrogen and progesterone on the developing brain cells and under the presence of different genes as well ... The changes brought about in this stage are permanent. ... Sexual differentiation of the brain is not caused by hormones alone, even though they are very important for gender identity and sexual orientation.

Hence why Native Americans and other cultures traditionally identified with more than two genders (see my post above).

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prenatal_h...rientation

I’m just grateful that I was born with male organs and identify myself as a male, so I don’t have to put up with the bigotry and discrimination that sadly still exists in society.

I my view it's very simple.

You either have natural ovaries, or have had them in the past - in which case you are female; or you have natural testicles, or have had them in the past in which case you are male.

An extremely small percentage of the population, one in 83,000 (0.0012%) are true hermaphrodites, that is to say that they have both ovarian & testicular tissue. I have no objection to them deciding which pronoun they wish to be addressed by, although I may well forget !

Source for the percentage: ISNA - How common is intersex?" www.isna.org.
Am I Gammon or Woke ? - I neither know nor care.

There are 10 types of people in this world: Those who understand binary, and those who don’t.

That’s way too simplistic Nige. You’re not taking into account how the brain develops. Thumbs Up

It doesn’t matter how THEY identify.. it’s when they start dictating to YOU how YOU should speak, what you can and can’t say to them and the rest.. They are free to be what they want to be, but you aren’t free to say what you want to them.

We aren’t all physic, if you look like a man, I’ll probably call you sir.. now a days that can get you fired, which is just plain ridiculous... be what you want, but don’t expect other people to pander to you because of it.

None of it bothers me until they want to tell me all about it and force it on me.
If you want to be treated like everyone else then just get on with your life the way you want to.

Sure you can have a parade though, they are fun and lively to go to even for us boring types.

But like LT suggests, I'm glad I developed physically and mentally the way I did.

I've seen the anguish and trauma of a work colleague trying to make sense of how she felt about herself and the rest of us, it wasn't good to see.
And I stress it was her own internal struggles causing the pain, not how others reacted to her.

As soon as I saw that story on the Beeb, I knew it would trigger the "old blokes" in to a splutter of digestive crumbs all over their Daily Mails. Rolling with laughter

It's all wrong! After all, gays like men, but they're men and women are supposed to like men. And men are supposed to like women. But what about lesbians? Oh no, that's all wrong too! And now this business of not using the correct pronouns. Surely they are "he" or "she" and not "they". It's really all too much!

I must go to my writing desk (leather topped, of course!) and draft a missive to the editor of the newspaper. Someone should do something about this thing I don't understand and feel uncomfortable about. It was different in my day, of course. Back then, men were men. Well, apart for those that "preferred the company of men" or were "confirmed bachelors", and those that took Holy Orders because they felt more comfortable in a cassock than plus fours, but we'll gloss over that. Hurumpf!
