Diagnosing a sluggish Disco 3 tdv6 EGR? Turbo ?

Hi everybody.

Sorry to start a thread, when there is so much answers on the forum. But i need help.

I was driving back in a mountain pass, after a 1270km round trip to pick up a milling machine, with the trailer.

Stopped at the side of the road. And couldn't pull away in first gear. I had to switch to low gears. And the disco was sluggish even then. That's with 2610kg behind. At an altitude of 2000m approximately.

When unhooked from the trailer. Just bellow the pass, where i live. I tried again. And the LR is a turd.

Can barely pull away in first.

I read of the MAP and MAF sensors. Cleaned the first one. Only barely sooty. I didn't probe anything inside. Just brake cleaner.

To no avail.

Edit: i have had an idea. Could it be possible to drive 500 meters with the MAP taken out of the intake Y to see if it i have faults at the dash. Would these clear after ?

So, from what i have read. There is three other causes possible.

EGR stuck.

Or the turbo control fudged.

Or else, the turbo vanes stuck.

The thing comes alive above 2500 rpm. And no black smoke.

The intercooler hose has been replaced in spring.

Is there a way to diagnose without an IID tool ?

Thanks a lot guys.

Well, a new thing appeared. I couldn't start it, well, it wouldn't rev up and stalled few times. Before it did.
Fuel filter?

18/20 celcius in the shade, more in the direct sun.

if you use the search on here and search "turbo actuator tool" and it should show you where it is, and how to make the little tool out of a coat hanger to free it up.
try this link
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/grease-turb...uator+tool

i asked the temp as discovery's with no glow plugs don't like starting when it 0 degrees C or colder

if it was 20 degrees C that's something else try a new fuel filter.

I think you would probably need to read the codes and see which ones are coming up. I'm sure someone who is more knowledgeable will comment shortly.

I'm just going from personal experience on my D3 from earlier this year when I had similar issues.

Edit: sorry, just re-read your original post and realised you had thought it might be an EGR problem. I'm not aware of anyway to check without an IID tool. My local indy diagnosed mine.

Good luck finding the problem.
 Cheers,

Jez

Well, the turbo actuator moves.

So not a turbo problem.

I checked the fuel filter and it's the early four pipes one. I'll call the only parts dealer open locally to see if they have a delphy or mahle in stock. After that, do i blank the EGR ??? I don't know.

Blank the egr's temporarily with two two pence coins, it can be done at the side of the road if you've got the tools.👍
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
