Insurance....
Just had my insurance renewal offer. Last year £590.
This year £1538.
I've had no changes to my policy, no convictions, and no accidents.
Phoned my insurance company up, he said the price hike was due to it being a Land Rover

Everyone's premiums have gone up this year. Insurance companies/brokers are blaming a variety of factors, but on the whole they're happy to take any excuse to bump premiums up. They're just like energy suppliers and fuel stations in that regard - very quick to pass on any increase (plus a mark-up), but very slow to pass on subsequent reductions in costs.
The renewal on my BMW was up from £240 last year to £370 this year. Disco's up in December, paid £260 last time, so I'm expecting something approaching £400 to be their opening gambit this year.

My son's renewal quote was give or take double last years policy which was £251 on a 55 plate Toyota Corolla he rang them up and they didn't want to give any reason or even discuss it so consulted the meerkat and found Santander had a competitive offering and as he banked with them spoke to them direct and got an even cheaper quote so this year his insurance has cost him £197. Makes you wonder how these companies perceive the risk so differently"Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag'em down to your level. It's cheaper".

The question is, would anyone like to insure another person even for these extortionate figures?- I know I wouldn’t not the way people drive and the distance they drive nowadays! It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Insured with LV, the last three years it’s increased from £250 to £350 to £450 and that with me phoning them up to negotiate plus I check on comparison sites for other companies quotes.
I did think I’d managed to restrict the premium, but then discovered that the excess had risen from £300 to £450. I can’t think they told me, but it may have been in the small print.
I could cancel the insurance without cost and try elsewhere with a lower excess, but I’ve found the prices have risen to make any reduction in this to be overtaken by an increase in premium, so I’ve just bit the bullet and accept if I am involved in something and claim I will have to pay the increased excess if I am at fault.
my Churchill renewal came the other day, been with them for a while because when I checked else where they were always least expensive, so last year for the D3 V8 was £368.27 this year it's £486.42.
when I called them to negotiate, as I always do, it was sorry that's the price take it or leave it, when asked why it's so expensive they could not give an answer ( my D3 has a key), ringing around prices ranged from £650 to £1500.69 with full no claims and no accidents and clean license.
I don't accept "things are more expensive for them" as they have the power to keep repair prices competitive, we are just paying for the boards new houses foreign holidays and steep salaries as they laugh at the poor sods forced to buy insurance from racketeers, most of them should be in prison - that's my thought on thisD3 4.4 V8 2005 sadly now gone

For vehicle insurance (their motor segment) they took a 77 million hit in 2022. Usually insurance companies don’t want to make a loss.
CEO and CFO comp is on page 130, looks fairly ok. I mean nothing that would raise anyone’s eyebrows, really. We can agree to disagree on management and board comp but I don’t think the salaries are out of control by themselves and a large part is tied to performance.
Also according to the report they cancelled the implied/promised final dividend. I imagine it’s to keep the amount of cash on hand higher even though they could have paid it out. Usually shareholders (institutionals) get unhappy when companies they’ve invested in do this as the institutional investor doesn’t now get returns to their fund… and has to explain to THEIR investors, theoretically, about lower performance.

Time for a rant on this: my D3 needs a new rear door and wheel arch trim after someone changed lanes without looking recently. It’s a good few years since I had any bodywork done, and I can see why insurance costs are so high. Instead of looking at the car to see what’s needed, the (large) bodyshop want to take it in, then presumably work out what they need and order the parts. They can’t tell me how long it’ll take and said “just tell her insurer you need a hire car, it’ll be easier”. Easier for them, but a huge and unnecessary cost for the insurance company, especially if I demand the large car that I could. I can only assume that if every repair now is handled like that, it’s no wonder our premiums are going up.

Here in .fi I pay about 1200 euro (roughly 1000 GBP) annually for vehicle insurance (mandatory + voluntary) for the D3. My rebates are 70% for mandatory (max) and 80% for the voluntary (max) part.
The price has been relatively static since 2017. I have elected to not pay for a hire car if something happens to mine, it would be around 400 euro more annually. I do pay for glass coverage with a 200 euro excess. On the other hand I’ve used it once and for a nice new Pilkington screen... My excess for everything else is 500 euro.
as Sarumlight mentions his experience, surely the insurance companies should know what's happening with repairers taking the easy way out, they should investigate these repairers to ensure we get best value and Insurance companies keep their outgoings lower, rather than loading up the end user at renewal time, I still think they are very greedy and all these rises adds to the cost of living affecting everyone.D3 4.4 V8 2005 sadly now gone
